I know they won't have time to read, but I'll ask the question anyway.....

Are they allowed to bring any books with then for Plebe Summer

In all seriousness, the only "book" plebes need is Reef Points. If you have a spare moment, you're studying your rates. I don't know if you're allowed to bring books but you're right in that there is NO time to read them. I'm a huge reader but can't recall reading books -- other than academic texts -- during my USNA years. Maybe on leave???

I wouldn't take books for plebe summer. I fear people will laugh at you. And, you'll have to cart them around and won't have any time to read them until at least PPW. I think the first time a plebe will want to read them would be Christmas/holiday break.

Really, all your time at USNA is devoted to studying or doing things that don't involve reading. Don't worry, if you're a reader, there is plenty of time during the rest of your life to resume the activity.

1985 is correct, recreational reading is a rare event for plebes especially and is accomplished at the expense of studying for something for which they will be held accountable. Let your plebe tell you what they want in the way of personal reading materials and when to send them.

Some do choose to bring their Bible, or quick fact book for those table discussions.

Would you recommend bringing his Bible? Older, enlisted son was given a small Bible during boot. Is that done at the academy as well? I was thinking of sending plebe-to-be's Bible in first care package.

The chaplin's usually give out bibles to all those who want them at the beginning of the summer.
