Boot Brand

Does anyone have any recommendations on brands of boots that work best for them? I'm an MS-1 and am trying to find something that won't give my feet tons of blisters. I'm also willing to spend $200 on a pair, so money isn't an issue.

OP: I urge you to rethink your strategy. It's not all about the price. That's like the people who buy the best ski equipment thinking that will help them ski.

Learning about proper fit, proper foot care and toughening up your feet is the objective. There is no blister proof boot - no matter what you spend.

Recommend you consult some Boy Scouts literature or other sources (REI or other camping stores) regarding foot care and proper sock selection to educate yourself on this subject. Go to the library and get some backpacking books. You will learn about fit, socks, foot care and first aid. You will learn all about moleskin and other options for "hot spots" and blisters.

Also, depending on your ROTC branch and unit, there will be "approved" boots allowed. Don't spend a lot of money on boots that are not approved for wear.

We went to a nearby army base so my DD could try on and she selected a Belleville that was around $140 - so far, well worth every penny - no blisters or pain. Its very lightweight and flexible and feels more like a sneaker.

I honestly don't think suggesting/recommending a particular brand is what any student needs (even though I did that!). Every foot is very different and boots must be tried on to determine fit/comfort. Different feet will like different boots!

My battalion's MSG suggested Garmonts to me. I am in the same situation you are

Garmonts are my favorite brand by far. I've worn many pairs and always love how they feel.

However, everyone's feet are different. I know people that don't like Garmonts because of how they feel to them. Your first couple pairs of boots I would try different brands, you'll probably find one that you'll then wear consistently for years.

My son just had the same issue with major blisters 1st week of ROTC this year. He bought "Nike SFB Field" which came highly recommended by his instructor's and fellow Cadets because of fit and comfort. Well my son loves them, blisters are gone, no new ones and he described them feeling like wearing sneaker rather than boots. $150.00 with free shipping. Free no hassle returns by Nike so worth a try. Hope this helps!

My DS got Nike's as an MS-I and has no regrets now as an MS-III with the same boots.

Bellevilles were recommended to DD but when we tried to order some directly from the company they were on backorder for six weeks. They didn't let us know for several days after we ordered, even after we paid for expedited handling and shipping. This put DD in a bind for trying out for RC, so we were not pleased with their customer service. Amazon Prime 2-day shipping saved the day and she went with Blackhawks. Had a slight issue with blisters but I'm sure that was just from not breaking them in properly. They've served her well now for over a year.
