Researched some boots from the Rocky and Belleville Tactical Research Line. Here are just a few listed in a graphic organizer. Hope this is helpful for those not sure on which boots meet regulation.

Nice work. I don't believe the Belleville 633 is waterproof, no Gor-tex materials.

Last year, a specific brand and model was called out. Is that not true for this year? Depending on Cadre and squadron, you may or may not be allowed to bring and/or wear boots other than what is specifically listed in the instructions until after BCT or later.

This is what the Instructions to Appointees says about boots: "These boots must meet the following specifications: sage green in color, 8 inches high, have a rubber sole, and a waterproof upper bootie (Gore-tex or similar). The boots must NOT have steel or safety toes, or zippers. Bellville models 690 (men’s) and F650 (women’s); NIKE SFB Field 8”; Danner Rivot TFX 8” all meet these requirements."

That's great! At least giving choices. The Belleville ones specified last year for the women were actually discontinued, so DD had to find the next closest style.

I can't find any info that the Nike SFB's mentioned in the instructions are waterproof. Does anybody know if they are?

The Belleville & Danner both say they are waterproof.

Can anyone clarify if we're allowed to bring our own boots for use during BCT, or should I have them brought on parent's weekend?

I can't find a website that says they are waterproof. U.S. Patriot Tactical does not have them listed as waterproof, but sells the boots. When I filter my search to "8 inch boots" they come up, but they disappear when I filter to "waterproof".

Thank you dancing_falcon, that is what my research showed too.

I know Nike had an older version of the SFB, so I am wondering if they were waterproof hence were compliant. Odd that they would be listed but yet they don't appear to meet the waterproof requirement.

Last year, the instructions "highly recommended" buying and bringing one pair. Not sure what this year's instructions say.
On I-Day, if the appointees had a pair with them, they had to put them on and wear them before they inprocessed and the remainder of the day.
Quite a fashion statement with some of the outfits, mostly shorts.

Capri120- funny you mention that they had to wear the boots if they brought them. On this years instructions under what is permitted it states: PERMITTED CELL PHONE (WILL BE LOCKED UP UNTIL PERMITTED) ABU BOOTS, IF PURCHASED IN ADVANCE (OPTIONAL TO PURCHASE IN ADVANCE; ALL CADETS WILL BE ISSUED BOOTS TO ENSURE 2 PAIR EACH), WEAR THEM (Maybe they don't what the boots to take up room and weight in their bags, so they just have them wear them)

In this years instructions it has prepurchased boots mentioned under 'What to Bring' and 'Permitted' sections, then states

"Footwear- By the time you arrive at the boot issue station on in-processing day, you will have been on your feet for many hours and your feet will be swollen and tired. To ensure a perfect fit and to lower the risk of blisters, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you purchase 1 pair of ABU boots and wear them for 2-4 weeks prior to arrival at USAFA. These boots must meet the following specifications: sage green in color, 8 inches high, have a rubber sole, and a waterproof upper bootie (Gore-tex or similar). The boots must NOT have steel or safety toes, or zippers. Bellville models 690 (men’s) and F650 (women’s); NIKE SFB Field 8”; Danner Rivot TFX 8” all meet these requirements. All incoming cadets will be issued sufficient boots to ensure that they have two (2) pairs of serviceable boots for wear during BCT"

So glad I saw this thread...I thought it was for USMA by title. As the Nike boots were not listed in the table, does anyone have any insight into them? I know that the Army equivalent is great for in garrison or road marches but are not designed to withstand time in the field. What do you all think?

Also in the Instructions this year it says that regarding gym shoes, either wear them or carry them. I take it this means that I should be wearing my boots and packing my gym shoes?

Exactly, unless you want to be changing shoes just before inprocessing

From what I've read about the boots, they are not waterproof, which is something USAFA specifically asks for. I think I am going to avoid buying them and instead going for the Bellville or Danner ones instead, which I know to be waterproof.

FWIW, last year we purchased a pair of boots for DS so he could wear and break them in before BCT. About a week before departing for I-Day he decided not to take them but rather get a pair issued to him at USAFA. At some point after BCT, during the fall semester if I remember correctly, he purchased another pair of boots more to his liking. This seemed to work well for him and may indicate that stressing about the boots and getting them ahead of time is more effort than it's worth.

On a side note, we still have a pair of like-new Belleville boots that were worn maybe 5 times. If anyone is interested in them at a reduced price, send me a message. I think they are a size 12 or 12.5.

Your feet (or your DD's/DS's feet) will thank you for staying relatively dry, especially during BCT 2. As former basics, now cadets, can tell you, your feet can be in pretty sad shape by the end of BCT. I know DD's were, even with waterproof boots.

I have the two issued pairs of Belvilles, a pair of Nikes, and a pair of Corcoran Marauders. I also wore Bates Lites (not an AF boot) during a USMC summer training last year. I very rarely wear the Belvilles unless I'm doing something pretty rough outside, I use the Nikes for short road rucks/runs or indoor training sessions, and the Corcorans for going to class/whatever else (I just happen to like the way they look.)

The Nikes get tore up pretty quickly. Would not recommend for wet weather, winter or anything too wild outside. They're very light though, which is nice. The USMC Bates Lites are probably my all-time favorite boot for rucking/the field. I'm googling away now, and it looks like they have a similar boot in sage green.

For appointees-do whatever makes you comfortable when it comes to bringing/training in boots. I bought and trained in a pair before I-Day, left them at home and got the issued ones when I got here. I encourage you to put yourself in a position where you feel the most prepared, as your prep is one of the only things you'll have control of over the summer.
