Does anybody know when we get our boot letter? One of my uncles went to USMA and he said that you need a while to break in your boots and low quarters otherwise you will be in pain throughout beast. I'm a little concerned now about getting my boots early enough.

In past years the boot letter was posted for download on the candidate's login page - the candidate portal.

The tan boots that are issued now are easier to break in than the old black boots. You probably won't need much time for those. The low quarters are the ones to focus on.

Nothing stays the same.....

This year Cadet Candidates will NOT be authorized to purchase boots prior to R-Day.
The tan boots don't need breaking in and you will be fitted and issued boots when you arrive.
To the best of my knowledge you will be authorized to purchase low quarters. Definitely purchase a pair ahead of R-Day and break in your feet.

I'm kinda glad that the boots will be issued at WP. For those who have never purchased really specific boots like that it's a relief to know that the students will get fitted correctly.

If feet get sore and blistered then it will likely affect many students simultaneously and cadre can adjust accordingly.

FYI: The boots will be fitted by the local podiatry school. The cadets will get an excellent fit. The cadets, in the past, reported w/ one pair of boots, and the second was fitted during beast by this school.

The instructions say we don't need to break them in because they're --new and high tech --. oooohh, exciting.

Black and boots

You gotta get the black shoes and break them in! Wear them to school.

I would still get the boots even despite the new procedures. If you get the right type and if they allow you to keep the broken in pair, it could be a huge benefit. IN any case your feet will build callouses to the boot type.

Do not underestimate attention to anything and everything to get your feet toughened and ready.

A surprising must have for my son was duct tape. Seems an old Ranger and SEAL trick is to use duct tape on large swaths of the feet to prevent blisters. It works.

You are about to see your feet in ways you never understood before.

It's a good trick to use, but can be cumbersome especially when you're woken up at 0500 and have to be outside in full gear ready to ruck by 0515.

My recommendation is to take the time to look and some shops online and purchase a solid set of socks. In all my years there and in the Army, I've found that a good pair of socks make more of a difference than any old trick :)

If I knew the brand of the socks I wear to work now, I'd post it. I'll check the clothing and sales store on post this week and get back to everyone. I've rucked many a mile since graduating with these socks and have had nothing more than tired feet and legs :thumb:
