Boot recommendations

Hi all! Does anyone have any suggestions for the best performing/most comfortable boots that are permitted? Thanks!
 
My DS C3C is on his second pair of

Men's NIKE 8" SFB Gen 2 Boots​

His first pair got him through BCT to Christmas. He got a second pair at Christmas which he is still wearing.

Thank you. Assuming the color is the darker tan (called Coyote Brown on the website) vs the lighter one (British Khaki)?
 
Garmont Bifida here. Wore it from BCT and it's still good. Durability is a guarantee and looks legit too
 
There are several boot threads on the forums...after reading all of them, I would have chosen the Nike. However, I was able to go to a store on a base and try on several different brands. I did not like the Nike boots. If at all possible, go to a base store and try them all on. They are really like any other type of shoe...everyone has a preference.

+1. This goes for all footwear and especially running shoes. TRY THEM ON. Everyone’s feet like different models.

Definitely - I HATE all the Nike boots I have tried (and that's 4 different kinds over the years...). My current choice is the Danner Tachyon boots with a coat of waterproof spray. Super light, super comfy. Not high on the durable scale, but you'll wreck whatever boots you wear for basic no matter how awesome they are...so I think that's less relevant. My current pair of Tachyons are now about 3 years old still going strong.
 
I love my nikes…in garrison. I would not wear them into the field unless I was forced to. Definitely try on different boots to figure out what works best for you. Belleville ended up being my brand for comfortable flight boots I can also wear into the field and feel good about the ankle support but some people think they feel too heavy. It all comes down to preference.
 
Gonna go ahead and second Danner Taychon. Survived Jacks Valley and the A course for me. Lightweight, comfortable, and just feel good. Doesn’t even feel like a boot once you get used to it.

Do all bases have stores civilians can visit? We're right between Camp Pendleton and Edwards Air Force Base.

All bases have an Exchange. For Army Posts it is the called the Post Exchange, or PX, and for Air Force Bases it is the Base Exchange, or BX. You do have to have a military ID to shop in them though.

Exact same story with our Cadet, C4C year. I have not heard one complaint about the Oakley boots in the year he has been wearing them.

That will make things difficult then, since we don't have any military ID folks in our family (yet). Maybe we'll try Patriot Outfitters. I hear their stores are open to civilians.
 
DD ('25) wore Oakley boots in basic and by Thanksgiving they developed a hole in the uppers and were breaking down a bit around the sole. She just bought Danner Tanicus as replacements. She says they are very comfortable, a little heavier and more solid than the Tachyons. She also has a pair of Danner Rivot if she needs a heavy boot in the winter.

Danner gives 10% discount for military.

I think BCT is the toughest time for any boot. If I had to do it over again, I’d still buy the Oakleys since they are his favorite, suggest he wear the issued boots for the assault course during BCT, but plan that they will probably need to be replaced at Christmas. That said, I don’t fault anyone for electing a tougher, heavier boot in the hope it holds up longer.
 
Amazon Prime has a “Try before you buy” option. This is great if you don’t live near a place where you can try on different boots. We ordered multiple brands, even different sizes, to see which one fit best for my DS last spring. You can choose up to 8 items and try for 7 days. You only pay for what you keep. He decided on the Danner Taychon. They are very comfortable and held up well through BCT and are still “ok.” He’s asked for the same boot for Christmas.

Great advice! We'll give that option a try. I didn't even think about using Amazon for boots.
