I'm sure I am ahead of schedule on this and it will most likely come up later (It has come up on a old thread).

Can someone please tell me and others viewing, what brand of boot will be required for BCT. I live near a base and have access. I believe two pairs are recommended.

Thanks ahead of time.

John

"Your safest bet is to get a pair of Wellco or Bellville boots as these are the two main brands that West Point issues during Beast."

The above was copied from the WP blog. Not sure if this helps you any.

I'd go with the Bellville boots. The Wellco's that we were issued are not the greatest. Many have torn in the heel or toe area.

USAFA Boot Color

From the Bellville website the USAFA boot color of choice is sage green. Is this correct? Also there are 4 styles so which one is the cadet's choice:
Hot weather combat boot or hot weather safety toe combat boot
Combat boot or combat boot with steel toe

One pair to bring to BCT knowing that at least one pair will be issued?

Info on the boots will be in one of your appointee packages -- probably the one that has all the info on orientation. You can also purchase boots at orientation. There is a phone number to call listed in your packet to get info on the exact boots.
Yes you'll need 2 pair of boots but only purchase one and get the other pair issued to you. On I day you have to carry around EVERYTHING you bring with you so you don't want to bring anything extra. You only need one pair of boots for the first few weeks of BCT - won't need the second pair til out at Jacks Valley. These boots don't need the typical breaking in the other boots did.

We ended up ordering online as the base near us didn't have the exact ones we were told he needed -- I think it was Belleville 650 -- and yes, they were sage green.

Our son just got the boots issued to him at In-Processing Day. Had no problems with them and did not have to carry them around before hand. You either pay for them if you buy them on your own or they issue them to you on In-Processing Day and take them out of your paycheck. Either way you pay for them.

I was going to ask the same question as Jezzie ...how much do the Boots Cost??
Also, If your issued the 1st pair in the beginning...then when do you get the 2nd pair?

you're issued your second pair prior to going to Jacks Valley - and $150 is just about right

Do you happen to know the Bellville website?
Also, sorry for the questions but when do you go off to Jacks Valley?

Thank you for all the info you are putting out...its a big help for us that know very little

Thanks Mom14.....
Guess you really need to try them on before ordering!!! it states girls need to order 2 sizes smaller...seems we are going to have to wait and try them on the day!!!
At least we have a website for everyone to go to now for boot info :thumb:

The info on boot purchase will be in the Appointee Orientation brochure you will be sent. You have multiple options. Wait and get on I-day; purchase at orientation; contact boot issue and get letter e-mailed to you with specifics and then take that to military base near you to purchase; AFTER trying on a pair of Wellco/Bellevilles somewhere, order online.
We purchased our son's online, in Feb after calling for the info, getting the e-mail info, going to base nearby to try on Belleville similar style boot but not the exact #650 in the letter (He got his appt in Oct, accepted it in Jan, got appointee info in Feb)

BUT -- before buying any boots find out what the requirements are this year; wouldn't want you to spend $150 on the wrong kind.

as for Jacks -- 2013 arrived Jun 25, march out to Jacks was Jul 13. Got 2nd pair of boots approx a week before Jacks, so, I'd assume 2014 will march out on Jul 12 this year

You need 2 pairs because one pair will crawl though water, etc. at Jack's and you need another pair that is dry.

The ones that were issued for 2013 were Wellco boots, and from what I remebered, they were about $160 for two pairs. I purchased both during Orientation, though you can purchase one pair and purchase the second at inprocessing - you'll be spending time in the boot/shoe warehouse anyway, so the time you save is insignificant.

The Belleville 650 is the standard type.
That said, Belleville isn't the only company that makes them. IMO, they make pretty good boots. Mine seemed to last better than a lot of the other brands. I'm not sure if that is just me taking care of them, or actual quality. (Mine are the old style black ones. YMMV)
