Boot type

Dan, I disagree that the Wellcos are fantastic. True, they require little break in, but they are not very sturdy...I had a pair rip on me during basic. They also suck in terms of waterproofing and weight. One of my classmates' boots separated from the sole. The best I've seen so far are the Rocky S2V Spec Ops boots. Just in terms of weight, one pair of Rocky boots weigh less than a single Wellco boot.

Wellco is terrible. My good pair is falling apart from walking. WALKING!

i think you guys just need to learn to take care of your boots! haha....mine are in awesome shape. And weight is better, gets you in shape....

Uhh yeah, running the strips and carrying your backpack in your left hand also gets you in shape...:wink::rolleyes:

Just curious if anyone received info about the boots in the appointee package?

We didn't see that info and my son can't go to orientation because of sports commitments.

If the info about boots is first given at orientation, would someone please post that info here or pm me after orientation:

Thanks so very much :)

We didn't get anything in our packet about the boots either. We just heard about them on this forum.

On the Orientation Brochure that has been sent out, there is a little section on Boot Purchases, where they list a number for more information. I wouldn't hesitate to call it.

Thanks NBBGOLFCMDR. We found the brochure and found the phone number for boot issue and left a message to find out the details. I will post whatever information we find out.

Don't worry too much about the boots. If/when you come to orientation, ask your cadet escort to take you the the boot/shoe warehouse where you can purchase one or two pairs of boots. If you don't come to orientation, you'll receive boots during inprocessing, and it won't take that much longer, since you'll be getting lots of other stuff at the boot/shoe warehouse anyway. The boots are also relatively easy to break-in, but blisters will be very common even for those with broken in boots.

I would rather my son have two just in case something were to happen like ripping, or soles falling off. Also, if they were to get wet, you always have a dry pair. When we camp, we always take two for the "wet" factor.

Coming from "Cowboy Country", Wyoming, my son jokingly asked why Ariat doesn't make combat boots. They sure do make the best walking/working/riding boots. (At least in our opinion)

Basics get two pairs. It helps at Jack's, when they have wet/muddy courses. It also helps with the new ABU boots. Once the suede gets messed up, there isn't much to be done...:frown:
