Just got oakleys ~last week. First time I wore them they tore up the backs of my heels. Wore them again yesterday and they reopened the scabs. Is this normal when breaking them in? What can I do to prevent this/further blistering?

Lots of moleskin. Bandaids if you haven't got any of that on hand.

Honestly, sometimes it's just the boot. Not every boot will be great. One boot might work for some people and not for others. Some boots require a lot of breaking in, some boots just feel great out of the box.

Rucked through the blisters:) now with a week’s rest their all calloused and the boots do no harm!

I normally break in boots around the house upfront for like a day. Wear them walking around and doing chores. Then bring them for a short ruck march to see if there is any wear. The second portion is the socks. If they are weirdly thin or thick they may cause an issue but typically it is a secondary problem.

Are your boots too tight or too loose? Is there a part that rubbing your heel? Are you lacing the boots snuggly?

You may need a different boot model and/or size. The good thing about only having issued boots back in the day was there were only so many choices. Now you have 15 million boot choices and size combinations. It's for the better overall. Just harder to get that initial fit.

Try wearing two pairs of socks. A thin pair with a heavier pair over top. I like Darn Tough. Expensive, but worth it.

There was a comparison on here a few months ago about boot brand and running shoe brands. When you purchase new boots, try to find that thread.

DS ended up with Belleville Mt.Hybrid TR550. He wears Brooks running shoes and has somewhat wide feet. The folks who liked the Garmont brand seemed to wear the Asics or Nike running shoes. These are generalizations, but he tried both of those boots and the one was definitely more comfortable that the other.

If you can, try different ones when you get the chance the next time.

All the suggestions about socks are good too. Our family also loves Darn Tough. And they have a fantastic warranty. One DS has made good on that warranty, and it was not a hassle at all.

Good luck.
