Does anyone have experience with either the Oakley SI Light Assault Boot or the Danner Tachyons? Or any good boots in general? I've been looking at the Tachyons a lot but I really have no idea about how good they are compared to other boots. Also, not too sure about the sizing for either boot and since I'm overseas there really isn't anywhere to try any boots on. I'm also not too sure about ordering three different-sized boots (10, 10.5, 11 for example) and then returning two of them since I am not sure about how refunds/returns would work with overseas shipping. Any help at all would be great!

I ordered my son the Oakley and just got them. He is an 11.5 or 12 typically. I ended up getting the 12 only and it’s too big, so just ordered the 11.5 and have to send the other pair back. Wish I went with the smaller size first, but read a few reviews they run small, but not the case when he tried them on. I also read they run narrow, but were fine on my sons feet and didn’t seem narrow...but he by no means has a wide foot either.

Congratulations on your appointment Dav1y, I have seen you working towards this goal for quite sometime.

From what I’ve read, many cadets will buy two pairs of boots. The first pair is for BCT. It is a durable and heavy boot which could take the beating of the rigorous training. The second pair is a lighter boot which the cadets will use during the academic year so that they are not lugging around those heavier boots every day.

I bought a pair of Rocky SV2, ( heavier) in order to break them in for BCT, but I am also going to buy a pair of oakley light assault 2, and wear them for the academic year.

In regards to returning boots, you may want to contact the company that you will be purchasing from and explain your situation in order to get an understanding of what their return policies are.

Congratulations again!!!

Thank you!!! Congrats to you too of course!

I just received a pair of Oakleys for my son. He normally wears a 12, I ordered an 11 and they fit perfectly . They arrived yesterday and he went out and ran two miles in them with no issue. He said they are very light and comfy and feel like sneakers .

Congrats appointees! quarter here. I have the Danner Tachyons, wore them all of basic and the academic year and they still feel like running shoes. Never heard anyone complain about their Danners either. Treads are starting to wear down a bit but that's about it. My roommate had the Oakleys, no complaints until he ripped a hole by the big toe and then he had to wear the 16lb issued boots for rec ooooff.

For sizing I wear a size 12 when I buy Brooks but the 11.5 tachyons fit me perfectly.

Oh and I'd say don't bother buying two pairs, just more to bother about carrying around and moving and keeping in the closet, plus odds are you'll want to just keep wearing your basic boots.

Interesting thanks! Would you recommend buying shoes after basic instead of bringing two? Hope the year is going well.

I agree with this. You should get a durable pair for BCT and then training sessions and events during school, but also have a "daily driver" pair that you can wear to class.

For me personally, I bought the Nike SFB Field 2 for BCT and the Oakley Light Assault 2 for the school year.

If I decide to bring 2 pairs of boots, which will be comfortable and broken in, will I still be issued a pair?

You will get more info on your portal 4/1 per the parents page. I will tell you that they say to bring nothing extra, you have one bag and carry it in your left hand all I-Day. Some cadets tie their boots to the bag or wear them. You need to bring good athletic shoes too. My son will not be bringing 2 pairs of boots on I-Day.

I was not planning on bringing the second pair of boots with me to I-day. I was thinking about having my parents drop them off during parents weekend.

Ok, that’s not what you said in your past comment, you said if I decide to bring 2 pairs of boots, will I still be issued a pair (I bring 2 pairs, not I bring 1 my parents bring another at a later date). Good luck to you!

My apologies, I did not make that clear.

If I bought a pair of boots and wore them on I-Day would I be allowed to keep those on, and still be issued another pair regardless?

Last year I believe everyone got the issued boots, no matter how many they brought. But then again that was last year

Thanks it is! I'd totally recommend waiting to buy, especially if you already have boots and you know they're comfortable. The less stuff you have to keep track of during basic the better

It would make sense for everyone to be issued a pair. The military tells you to buy something, not everyone can or will. However military still needs you to be ready for training and that happens in combat boots. Hence they need to have a pair for everyone and they give them out just in case something happens to your pair.
