DS recieved his ED package, my question is, are rats required to wear the same type of boots? What type and brand is accepted. I would like to purchase a pair now to allow him to "break" them in. RK

If he goes to STP he will get them there along with their low quarters and have opportunity to break them in. They make them dress funny with their American Eagle shorts and Hollister t shirts; brand new boots and low quarters with high socks and go to class looking like that. DS said that they all are told during STP when to wear them so they all look like idiots together. I know they must wear what is issued during RDC activities etc. DS had no real problems with what they gave him. As far as brand I can try to find out but I know their packing list is limited as to what to bring and I don't believe boots are on it yet I know of a Rat that uses his JROTC boots during ROTC training.

I think they are stuck with issued boots until Breakout. After that, I think they can wear personal Tac boots that are the right color. Still have to be Tac boots, though. If this is wrong, I hope someone will so advise. My DS has his heart set on a pair of UA Tac boots.

If you are able to purchase your own boots, consider spraying them with a few coats of "Camp Dry" before wearing them. Mud comes off easier and grass stains don't stick.
