My DS is hoping to early select Nuclear and is planning to apply to be a Bowman Scholar. He is working with mentors and advisors to that end.
I have done my own digging and learning and was hoping some on the forum might share any knowledge or experience they have that might educate me some more (which I can share with my MIDN). TIA

He won’t need your assistance. USNA will prep him well. Tons of info. My oldest has a buddy that is in the program and basically, he gets his masters in a year, before going to Nuke school. VS doing it later. Like while on shore duty. My own looked into it when Interested in NUKE.

Good luck if he goes for it! A great opportunity to further his education!

Here is another link, primary source as well:

Thanks all. When I say “help him” I mean having the capability to listen to his vent, rant or rave somewhat intelligently. 😂

I help my son too.

Son: Dad, I am thinking about changing my major.
Me: ok

Son: Dad, I am looking at this billet.
Me: ok

Son: Dad, I have changed my mind about my billet.
Me: ok

Son: I can take you in a fight now.
Me: good luck with all that. You need to get by the goldendoodle first.

He doesn’t listen to me anyway.

Same here …. I don’t really have too much advice for her anymore. She listened to us on majors and all that stuff, but she’s blazing her own direction.

When she calls to grumble, it’s mostly because she is tired. I say keep working hard … I am proud of you … and I say Ok a lot too.

LOL

The latest conversations I had with him regarded how his grades are going to slip this semester because his major is time consuming and hard. I gave my standard response - just do the best you can. The results don’t matter.

Edit: one of the last substantive texts I got Sunday afternoon from him: “LMFAO the Minnesota Vikings suck” after they missed a last second 37 yard field goal to lose their second game in a row by a bad play in final part of games.

Can’t they teach a civility class to these people?

Lucky he's not a Vikings fan.

Sadly he is.

When the Vikings got robbed in the Saints game in 2010, my older brother called me and asked me if that loss hurts more than all of their others. I said yes, because I manipulated my son to be a loser Viking fan like me.

LOL. My four sons bleed purple. They have been scarred for life and fear place kickers. Didn't help that Denny Green was our neighbor when they were growing up.

No help here.............. just best wishes for him.

Celebrate his willingness to try for it; celebrate the extra effort he puts in; supportive but not invested in success.

Sheesh I sound like a "life coach" but this was something I failed to do when my non-SA DD was chasing a "Brass Ring", (still bothers me a little). I doubt you can inform him much on this scholarship, but I'm sure he appreciates knowing you are engaged.

That doesn't come until they graduate and start on the bottom of the food chain again as Ensigns and 2ndLts trying to figure out life. :p

You give great life coach advice, thank you!

The only team in the NFL that is as worthless as the Minnesota Vikings is Buffalo. We lost four super bowls and won none. They lost four in a row and have none. Sit down privileged Charger fan who has only lost one. ;)
Well played sir.

As a lifelong Giants fan, I do have to say that Scott Norwood is still my all-time favorite NFL player.

Sorry but as a longtime USNA fan, my favorite Giants player is still Phil McConkey.

I think his daughter is a current plebe
