I went to boys state a few years ago and here's what I remember:
- Firstly, have fun and get to know people. You're surrounded by some of the best and brightest in your state of your age group. If you play sports you've probably seen a few of these guys. And if you go to a service academy there's a good chance you'll see a handful of them there too.
- Don't show up and be like "I want to run for governor" right away because everyone will laugh at you. Just be laid back and enjoy the week for what it is.
- If you do decide to run for a high position, be sure your public speaking skills are good. The guys who won all of the high positions during my time had stellar speaking skills.
- Either way it looks good on a college application, so keep that in mind.
