This may seem like a silly question but is there an equivalent to Boys State for females? Mostly in regards to how SA's view it on applications, but also in lines with the program.

Contact your guidance counselor and ask. If you get nowhere ... contact the American Legion. My son was given first choice on Boys State but our school isn’t as supportive as they should be. The American Legion people are simply fantastic.

Totally depends on your state and actually your local post. My local Boys State is determined to put on the event in person and the school where we hold it is both amenable and well-experienced at operating safely within the COVID environment. Our sister Girls State organization is going to go virtual for the second year because their host site is not operational at this time.
.
Local posts here are currently interviewing potential Statesmen but one big issue is that a lot of posts are still shut down due to COVID and many others are in severe financial distress due to the shutdowns and not able to fund their usual number of boys.

Not boys state, but my son did the Ronald Reagan student leadership program which was online last summer due to Covid and I anticipate will be online again this summer. Good program, not sure how much it counts for in the application process, but my son was offered an appointment. Just another option.

My son high school knew nothing about Boys State. He contacted local legion posts directly and talked to them. Be respectful, courteous and kind and if they have an opening, you might get it.

Not Boys or Girls State but I volunteered twice to be a Page and a Messenger. Once for the FL House of Representatives and once for the FL State Senate. I received all kinds of hands on experience. Both events were a week long. And each wrote an LOR for me as well.

Curious, how did you apply for that?

Through my local FL House representative's website; for the Senate, I had a connection. Google Page and Messenger Programs. I will add, I did it my freshman and sophomore years. I don't know if they had any last year- sometimes they begin in January so it depends on the cycle.
