Boys State

How is the application process for Boy's State? Are you selected or can you just go? Thanks!

If your school doesn't send people to Boys' State (as was my case last year), call and email pretty much every post around you and you'll just have to hope you get lucky! It's definitely worth it, I was lucky enough to go and I will never regret it!

Or if your counselor is no help, contact your local American Legion Post directly. Schools in my area aren't big Boys State participants but we were able to send DS by contacting the local post directly. Turns out they had no one going to Boys State so we were able to get the slot. DS loved it.

When I visited West Point, the admissions officer that gave the presentation made it very obvious that Boys State looks much better to the admissions office than SLS; that it is comparable to being an eagle scout.

I definitely agree. I go to school close to a pretty.... anti-military area near Berkeley, so I had to go directly to the American Legion a half-hour away.
