Good luck to all of the Firsties tonight! Thank you for your commitment and I hope you are happy when the night is over.

Good luck to all. We are anxiously awaiting word from DS. Can't wait to hear from America's Finest and other Firsties.

Infantry! As a proud dad and former Marine platoon commander, I wish him well.

Congrats to FallenAngel77's DS! Proud moment!

From what I have heard - All but 21 got one of their top five choices. Of those 21, 15 were force branched FA

FA for my cadet. He's very happy! From my unexperienced vantage point, based on texts received last night and the mom's fb page, it does seem that there were many more FA slots than in the past few years. Does anyone know why that would occur?

My son got FA as well, his first choice! I don't know if overall numbers are different than past. Interesting that many of those who didn't get top choices got put in FA. I believe FA is normally middle of the pack in closing out.

In the past few years, I'm pretty sure FA has been going out really low. I think it went out around the 900 mark last year...

This year only 85 people put it as their first choice even though there were 150 slots which may have to do with it.

@lightfoot, can you explain what you mean by "going out really low" and "around the 900 mark"... you mean in terms of where in the class rank it fills up or something along those lines? I guess I'm showing my ignorance of how Branch Night works.

The branch assignments are largely based on class rank - "going out low" or late means that the branch was not full until most of the class had selected a branch. For example, if a branch went out at 900, the cadet ranked 900th in the class got that branch, and no one lower ranked than him was able to get a slot in that same branch. going out high or early means exactly the opposite - your class rank must be high in order to get one of the few available slots.
