Break over... back to school

Between semester break

DS came home determined to continue his PT while on break. He is on the Endurance team and planned to run with a weighted pack as he does during Endurance PT. He pulled out my hiking backpack, loaded it with encyclopedias (yes, we still have a set on our book shelves!) and ran with the pack several times during his 3 week break. He also did runs without weight to allow for speed practice.

During Endurance PT the pack has 50 lbs and the 4 team members take turns carrying the pack. Since he had no one to hand the pack off to during his runs at home (maybe I should have offered? Not!), he loaded under 30 pounds in the pack.

He also made stops at the playgound down the street and worked on pull-ups. His first Endurance PT was yesterday and he was very happy with the results, especially his pull-ups.:thumb:

We travelled out of state for a few days to visit family during the holidays. The rest of his time at home was spent sleeping, visiting friends, getting in appointments (he was happy to have us pay for a haircut), watching sports with DH and playing with his 2 yr old nephew. He and I actually talk more when he is at school than while he was home!

DS is excited that he has his first Nuclear Engineering class this semester. He is a squad leader for his Platoon, which doesn't sound like it will be very time-consuming, but is a baby step down the leadership path.

Thanks for the other updates. It is interesting to hear what your sons and daughters are up to at school and in their battalions.

Glad to hear of your son's determination in training for the Endurance team and also his new billet. Squad leader is no piece of cake. I know my son spent a lot of time communicating up and down the Chain of Command. I'm sure he'll do well though. Is he going to Memphis for the Endurance competition? If so, then I imagine our kids will meet.

Kinnem, I am going to send you a PM.

After a good break, my DS returned to school last week and started classes Monday. He contracted yesterday -- a semester early! And the tuition credit actually showed up on his bill a day earlier -- which was a day after I paid his bill. :frown: Now I have to see how long it will be before I get a check returned from the university.

Kinnem, I loved this quote: "and I'm never sure about who's a friend and whose a girlfriend these days... they're "talking"[/I]

Both my DS's seem to spend a lot of one-on-one time with former girlfriends whom I am told are no longer girlfriends..........

Congrats to you and your son SPM! Unfortunately I'm sure the check will take forever... or at least feel like it. Just think of it as money in the bank.

If you ever figure out the girlfriend thing please let me know. I'm totally confused  The only time I really know he has a firlfriend is when facebook tells me so... and then its over a short time later so go figure. Seems like announcing a relationship on facebook is the kiss of death!

Kinnem,

Be glad your DS is still enjoying dating -- my DS decided to use some of his pay from BCT to buy his girlfriend of two years(who is 18 and a college freshman) a "promise" or "pre-engagement" ring:rolleyes: 1/4 diamond solitare isn't a chip and set him back some cash - but to me the darn thing looks like an ENGAGEMENT ring.....hell, my ring wasn't that big:wink:

So, enjoy his dating, confusing as it might be - I think its a good thing.

HAHAHA! Great story. Yeah, I'm fine with dating and am in absolutely no rush for him to settle on someone even for an extended time. He had one girlfriend for a year in high school and that terrified me! Way too long. I'd just like to be able to tell the difference between a date and kids just hanging out.
