My name was sent up for my battallion in hopes to recieve a scholarship. I was told I'm competing at the brigade level against other cadets. Can someone explain how scholarships are distributed among the brigade? This is all Army ROTC.

Do you go to a cheap or an expensive school?

PMS buddy of mine says brigade is pretty good about making efficient use of their monies. He gave the example of the brigade being able to give a scholarship to 4-5 cadets going to UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte, etc vs 1 cadet to Duke. Make sense to me. Not to say cadets at Duke don't have a chance, but costs are part of the calculus.

Private School, certainly on the expensive side.

Each brigade does things differently. Bottom line though is you name is on the OML and how the Brigade allocates spending their money is out of your control. Hopefully there is enough more new to get to your name and you receive an offer.

Turns out I am in the top ten for 2nd brigade OML

How long would it take to allocate the fund to Battalion by Brigade? in general...

Depends on the Brigade, and how the Brigades Battalions process the scholarship requests and how quickly Battalions can get those to Brigades and the Brigades get those to Cadet Command.

If I tell you it takes three weeks, does that make you feel better?

We were told by school battalion that DS was submitted for campus-based scholarship on early Nov. 2018, but we still did not hear back from upper level. Is it a norm? DS is attending a private school in West coast.

We are also waiting. DS had hoped to hear back by Christmas, semester starts tomorrow. No one in the battalion has had any news.

Did your DS hear anything yet?

I recieved a 2.5 year! Good luck to your DS ^^
Can you tell me when you were notified?
January 4th

which state is your school located in?
My DS is in west coast, but no updates.

My DS is in Florida... was told at orientation that some 3 1/2 year scholarships would be awarded, none have been that he is aware of.
Just curious if you received any update on additional scholarship. Wondering if since the semester has started if my DS is out of luck.

No, nothing. He did everything that battalion told him would be required for the additional 1/2 year scholarship, great grades, improved PT score to 291 joined battalion activities including Ranger Challenge but was not selected. (Not sure if anyone else was either)

Sounds like we are in the same spot. My DS is ranked 1st from the MS 1s.3.85 GPA, great PT score, he made the Ranger Challenge Team and competed at the regional event ( they decided to take upper classes this weekend). Just wish they would let us know one way or another. They have only been back a week guess I assumed he would know before second semester started. He is freshmen so we are learning as we go. Do you mind sharing what state your DS's school is in?
