Soon-to-be plebe here. I have read over everything online and everything they provided us with, but in the "important information for the class of 2018" book, it gives us a list of things we will be provided with (including all necessary clothes). it says "All candidates will be issued nearly everything that they will need for the duration of the summer, but candidates will be allowed to bring and utilize the following clothing as long as it meets Naval Academy uniform criteria"... so if everything is provided for, why is it that people are still buying tons of socks, white shirts, etc. ?? I mean let me just ask the forum this, to people who have already been through this or will be going through this, what did/will you bring to Iday?

Also, according to this website, it says i need to bring all this stuff.. not really that much but still more than i expected. I heard initially that people brought gym bags that were barely full.

I showed up with just the clothes on my back, cell phone w/charger, the needed forms, and that's it. Ended up just fine.

For the academic year you might want to get your own socks and plain white shirts but don't worry about for now.

This website provides some good information, but is a bit outdated. The main things to bring are: cell phone & charger, your favorite running shoes and a spare set of running shoes (they will issue you shoes, but hopefully you have a favorite pair that are broken in) and your I Day paperwork. Some companies allow a few other things such as toiletries, but everything you need will be issued! Period!

That handbook thing is ridiculously outdated.

If you're male, bring the paperwork, cell phone, wallet, and the clothes on your back. If you're planning on trying out for a varsity/club sport over Plebe Summer or you're a recruit, bring your athletic gear. The rest is unneeded, unless you plan on soiling your underwear three times a day or something. Laundry runs on an accelerated schedule for Plebe Summer, every few days.

Definitely don't bring socks. They issue like forty socks; it's a huge box. You will spend a large portion of your time on I-Day rolling socks.

Females I have no clue about.

Personally, I thought the whitey tighties they issued during the summer were awfully uncomfortable, so I had my parents mail me some white boxers and boxer briefs during plebe summer.

Besides that, I wouldn't show up with any other clothing.

when they say don't bring anything, they mean don't bring anything. you don't need to bring any clothes besides what you're wearing

For women, recommend you bring a few white sports bras that fit well. They do issue those but there is probably only one brand and you won't have time on I-Day to focus on fit. And you want something that fits well and is comfortable during PEP.

Other than that, agree that the less you bring the better. They make every effort to keep your stuff intact and safe but don't bring anything that you can't live without if you don't get it back.

Hockey gear is either left at your sponsor parent's house (if you know who they will be) or brought during PPW. DO NOT show up to Iday with full gear in tow (there is no ice anyhow) UUUUGGGHHHHH.

Ya that pretty much sums it up.

So if I want to try out for the club soccer team, I need my soccer gear?

Both my mids (one male, one female) brought extra compression shorts to wear under the USNA shorts. They issue some, but they were happy to have the extra. Mid Daughter also brought extra white sports bras. Everything else just gets left in your bag and stored away until parents weekend.

USNA18, I think you can bring your soccer gear, but if you aren't an RA, you may want to just have your parents bring it on Iday.
