I'm trying to figure out what Plebes are allowed to have and when. Will they take away retainers, spray sunscreen, tennis racket and shoes, fan?

They will not take away retainers, if they are part of an already-established dental plan worked out before PS with DoDMERB.
They are issued sunscreen, so I can't comment on whether or not they could bring their own and keep it.
Unless they are on the tennis team, leave the racket and related court shoes out of Plebe Summer (coordinate with your Plebe to see if you can bring to PPW). The fan is a bring-with-you-to-PPW thing as well.

RE: PPW - Are they even having a PPW this year? If not, it's a box-it-and-ship-it situation.
We sent a couple of care packages during PS. Their Detailers will look over their shoulder while they unpack the box, so don't try to put contraband in there.

Minimalist approach on I-Day. Rock stars are the ones with phone, charger, any required paperwork and ID/wallet in a gallon ziploc, wearing their compression shorts under regular workout shorts and lightly broken in athletic shoes. Small day pack. Bring what’s on the list, maybe an extra chap stick, small tube/stick of body glide, pre-addressed stamped envelopes. Go look at the photos posted in a recent thread of all the issued stuff. There will also be scheduled trips to the Mid Store during PS, which they can go to any time after Plebe Summer.

Then delegate all “stuff requirements and management” to your plebe, letting them tell you what, when, how and how many. No need for you to do anything or take the lead. Delegate and graduate, as the military saying goes. Plebes learn to share, help each other out, soak up knowledge from the prior enlisted, figure it out on their own.

Some varsity recruits may be bringing certain items of gear.

As others have said, less is more on I-Day.

Follow your mid’s lead when it comes to consumables in care packages. There will be some things that sound good now that will be less so in a few weeks. Cravings come and go. And platoons/companies can get swamped with certain things if all parents think alike. You might be surprised by what your mid wants or doesn’t want.

Then again, it’s a much shorter than usual PS, so may not be much time to care one way or another.

One thing that’s a little different this year about care packages, is updates from USNA are that parents won’t receive their mailing address beforehand. Plebes will receive addresses about 72 hours after reporting. And then plebes will snail mail that to us. So packages won’t be forthcoming for a while.

Plebes can have a retainer.
Don't bring sunscreen or a fan until ac year.

Put tennis stuff in a backpack and bring it to I-Day or mail it.

Just received an email from them with plebe summer mailing address and company for p2b...

... along with the call home dates. that makes life easier to micro-manage :)

I can't repeat or emphasize this enough!

This may be to late but DD took tennis racket in her back pack to I Day. She was glad to have it.
