I am making reservations for my first parents weekend and wondering if families typically bring siblings to attend or not? Are siblings welcome? Thanks in advance for your guidance.

definitely bring them if you can. We will be bringing our little ones. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins like to come too :)

It really depends on your cadet. Many just want to be off the academy reservation and eat and sleep a lot. If the family wants to be entertained and go site seeing, and cadet wants to sleep....

It's the first time off campus since reporting and they are different.

They may be introspective or want to enjoy the entire clan. The restaurants are full and the waits can be long

They have also just finished their first round of academic testing.

And always remember - not every one of your cadet's classmates had someone come out - reach out to them and help them enjoy the time as well. It will never be forgotten

For us - a yes! Our son loved going to the academic majors showcase and played with the robots and the flight simulator. The flyovers and the gliders during the parade proved entertaining too.

For whatever its worth, DD would have been extremely upset if her little brother didn't come to see her.

Depends on the sibling relationships. I am super tight with all my sisters so having them come out meant the world to me, but they are also awesome and considerate and realized I just wanted to sleep and eat. As long as that is the case, go for it! USAFA is a cool place to visit. Just make sure there isn't an expectation that your cadet entertain the family unless they really want to, including siblings.

Two of my sisters came out with my parents this year. It was cool to show them around and they also found things to do when I just wanted to watch TV. I think especially right after Basic, it was nice to see them since it had been like 2.5 months since I had left for I-Day, which was the last time I had seen them. I know for this year, only my older sister that I'm pretty close to is coming. It depends on the people, but I'd say for the first year, go for it if you think it would be an enjoyable time.

Just remember that all the climbing hills, steps, to parade field, dorms, Fairchild, library, Mitch's etc can put quite a strain on elderly and maybe little ones. This is not a place for someone with respiratory problems and an oxygen bottle to lug around.. Not saying it cannot be done, but it is not the Chesapeake Boating School..at a level sea level altitude. 7258' makes for a different experience. Also water bottles, water bottles and sun screen!!

Absolutely bring their siblings! In fact, the other cadets are counting on it.

Which reminds me - I heard a new one for WP the other day: "Winterfell-on-Hudson." I hadn't heard "Chesapeake Boating School." It's usually "Canoe U." Used to be "Little Boys' Boat and Barge School," pre-1976. All good fun.

This might not be politically correct, but PW is also unofficially known as "hot sister weekend." Having a DD, she wanted her two sisters and cousins there under the auspice of being "meet a hot cadet weekend."

Hormones aside, the cousin was so inspired that she is now applying to ROTC at her college, and one of the sisters is considering OCS.

Our DD did want some down time, but really liked having the whole extended family there as well. We got a big VRBO to accommodate everyone and had a great time.
