Lots of stuff in this article to include:

-US Marine F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jets deploying on a British carrier
-The carrier is the HMS Queen Elizabeth
The QE left Portsmouth, England Saturday-this is her maiden deployment
US Navy ordnancemen from USS John C. Stennis will be supporting the Marine aircraft

Too bad they stopped rum rations in 1970. When they did they didn't throw it overboard. The Navy removed it from ships and warehoused it. Some enterprising guys bought them out and you can still buy some original for about $1,050.00 a bottle:thumb:

Found out they call it Black Tot because it was a Black Day For The Navy. Some ships held funerals for the casks and barrels as they were offloaded. Imagine what they could have done over 300 years sober.

That stuff can be had for about $70 a bottle. It's not good enough to be over $30, let me tell you.

Are British ships dry now ? I recall one of my squadron mates got the chance to ride one of the Brit carriers during an exercise (late 80's-early 90's). The Officers Mess served alcohol except during flight operations. It was pretty low key and responsible, until the end of the exercise when they threw a party where the entertainment was a game called "get the American sick...."

DS and I were on a Canadian Coast Guard Cutter and they had beer and co-ed berthing, from what I recall.
