I was wondering about Buddhism and veganism in general at USAFA. I plan on contacting both the dining services and the chaplains about this, but I thought that it might help to hear some other people's experiences first. I also understand that only vegetarianism is guaranteed by USAFA and our government in general, and I know that not all of the uniform items will be vegan. I am mostly concerned with dining, but I already plan to be more relaxed about what I eat. Also, my veganism is related to my Buddhist beliefs, and I plan on attending Buddhist services at the chapel. What are they usually like? Also, has anyone on here successfully maintained a vegan diet at USAFA? Thank you!

Vegetarian is pretty easy to work. I'm not sure on vegan options...been a while since I ate at Mitch's.

Can't comment on the vegan diet... but Buddhist services are available at USAFA (just not "at the chapel" since it is currently under renovation for the next 3 years)

I'm vegetarian and was vegan for 3 years after graduating USAFA. Vegetarian = no problem, but during basic and freshman year, a vegan diet will be VERY tough (I'd say probably impossible) to do safely. Your best bet if it is really a top priority is to get permission to have a fridge in your room and cook all your food for the week on the weekend in one of the few kitchens at USAFA or at a sponsor's house. You'll really struggle to be vegan at Mitch's and if you do decide to try PLEASE talk to a dietician early on. USAFA is very physically demanding and you could really be doing some damage if you aren't careful about making sure you get what you need nutritionally. You'll basically have to give up a large chunk of your time to cooking and making sure you have food. If that's worth it to you, it can be done, but just know you'll be making a big sacrifice.

One of the things I loved most about USAFA was never having to cook...
