Buying boots

Is there any reason to bring or wear running shoes to Iday/ BCT? The "recommended" molded cleats...more useful than running shoes or take in addition to? Can I wear my own running shoes later and have them brought to Parent's Weekend if I don't bring them to BCT?

it says to wear your most comfortable pair of shoes the first day since you'll be on your feet and i feel like my running shoes are my most comfortable (might be because i run in them everyday of the year pretty much)

i pretty much have the same question, but can any cadets say if people actually bring cleats for bct squadron games or can it wait? are running shoes more useful and can you bring them to i-day?

I went to the LRAFB with my papa a couple weeks ago and got the 650 boot described in the booklet. Honestly, they made my feet go numb at first. Now that I have worn them for about two weeks, they feel much better. I am glad I got them...:jump1:

They won't let you wear your personal boots during BCT because they want you to standardize with your classmates. I've managed to wear my Rockys (recommended) during Jacks Valley a couple of times, but that's because my issued boots were wet and I intentionally packed my Rockys for that reason. I had to wait till during the year to wear my Rockys.

With all the marching we did, it took me like 3 days to break my Bellevilles in.

if the boots you bring with you fit the specs of the ones everyone else is getting you WILL be able to wear your boots you bring during BCT, which is why you need to get the ones specified in the inprocessing information. That's what my daughter did; she had no trouble with the boots she brought and wore them throughout BCT.
Just don't try to "get away" with something else, like the super light Nikes people talk about...that doesn't work.

Boots

The boots on the left are the ones issued by the USAFA and on the right are the Belleville ones. The boots and colors are allmost identical so don't let the picture fool you.

That's good to know, thanks! Did you have to bring your LOA to be allowed on base?

Honestly Air Force boots are sold on the internet and they will probably be cheaper than an on base location. Not sure if you need to get the exact models issued to you or not, because if you do that might pose a problem but I'm sure there are still sites online that sell them. But honestly to save you time and money buy dr Scholes and moleskin and you will be fine.

Just a heads up - we called the Academy about the boots because we wanted to order some. We were told that the boot information in the instructions booklet was outdated and those boots are no longer used.

did you get the model number?

someone posted a picture above with the model number and its a wellco S114M but i'm not sure if that's confirmed or not and i haven't gotten a chance to call the academy myself yet

No, they didn't give us the model # - only said the Belleville boots aren't the right ones and that the issued boot are a lot nicer and don't need to be broke in. ??

ok well i called my counselor and surprisingly she doesn't know of the boot in the forms we received being the wrong one. She gave me another number which is the people that issue the boots and they told me the boot being issued is a different one. he also said it'd be hard to get it and not to worry about getting used to them and that they feel like a sneaker when you put em on.

i just wanted to get used to em ahead of time but maybe i'll just get a different pair that i will want for after recognition and get somewhat used to boots

I am a cadet in the Class of 2016 and I think that this would be the best advice as far as boots are concerned. The issued boots do NOT need to be broken in before you arrive. Just buy a pair of boots and get used to doing PT in them... especially flutter kicks. :shake:

1) Don't buy boots before BCT.
2) Don't buy boots before BCT.
3) Don't buy boots before BCT.
3) Stop worrying about boots, and go do some flutterkicks.

You will be issued 2 standardized, ready-to-wear pairs on 27 June (along with more clothing than you'll ever be able to comfortably carry in your left hand.

Feel free to buy a different pair of boots after BCT.

USAFA Boots

To double check the model number, I contacted Wellco Boots to find out what model they are contracted to supply the USAFA and this is the response I got.

What is the boot model number that your company is contracted for and supplies for the United States Air Force Academy?

Sir,

The style is the S114 AFTW.

My son bought a pair of the Belleville's just so he could get used to wearing boots for working out (flutter kicks, running etc.) before he shows up. I did find a place that sells the Bellevilles for $120 delivered.
