It looks like I’m going to get my first ever C in my AP Physics 2 class. Keeping in mind it’ll count as a B in my GPA but a big fat C is...wow...at the very least; a bummer.

Will this decrease my chances for appointment? Or effect it?

If your application is Complete Pending Review and you have a nomination, admissions will review your package with those first 6 semester grades.
If those grades are the only thing that gives them pause in your entire application, then they may ask for your 7th semester grades.
Otherwise, they typically make their decision to offer an appointment on those first 6 semester grades.

I have received my nomination and my package is done. So no? It won’t affect ? Thank you for your honesty.

If they ask for your 7th semester grades, that's when you pucker. :eek3:

Oh god, I hope not. Have you heard of other candidates with similar situations?

Being brutally honest, a C in physics can hurt. I've had it happen to one candidate who took physics as a junior (her story, BTW, had a happy ending but that's for another day).

However, as someone said above, if USNA doesn't ask for your 7th semester grades, you have no obligation to send them. USNA asks for exactly what they want and that's what you need to provide. In that case, they will rely on your grades through junior year and this grade won't hurt.

Make sure that your school doesn't automatically send your 7th semester grades. My son had that happen to him (bad Calculus grade). He was hoping that USNA wouldn't ask, they didn't, but counseling office sent anyway. :-(

To be honest, I HOPE they ask for my son’s grades from this year. He is killing it, with college English and two AP classes included in his courses. No senioritis for him!

Rooty toot toot.

Was there a happy ending? Also, are we allowed to stop counseling from sending it?

Good for him! I shouldn’t have overloaded myself.

Well, he is reapplying with excellent college grades including As in Calculus! ;-) So we don't yet know how the story ends. He had talked to his high school college counselor about not sending 7th semester grades unless requested, but department admin. didn't know/forgot and sent them out automatically. I'm sure you could ask your school not to send them out until/unless requested.

Two days after USNA was notified of my sons Congressional Nomination he received an email that said they were waiting to decision his applications after they received Semester 7 grades. They should be receiving them the end of next week. Does anyone know how often the Admissions Committee meets and decides?

They meet every Thursday

Ok so if they meet Thursdays then do they send out Letters of Appointments the very next day? Or do you think they trickle through out the week?

It can come at any time, not just fridays, and not limited to the week that they examine your app (not that you would know either way, but they can look at an app and re-re-review it for as long as they’d like)

Just because the admissions committee reviews an application and makes a decision doesn’t mean an appointment will be coming. The board determines if they are qualified or not. If they are qualified it then goes to the Noms & Appointment board. This is where they start to slate candidates. If your DS is on a MOC slate that is unranked, he could be waiting until USNA makes a determination on who the slate winner is. An appointment could happen any day and all the way until mid-April. Most hear my late March. Also just because they asked for that info doesn’t mean that the package will immediately go back before the board. Once an appointment is offered they usually contact the MOC and give them a few days to call an appointee before they update portals.

This all got me to thinking, can an accepted appointment be revoked by USNA, if a candidate sits on their (accepted) laurels and tanks their last semester classes? Guarantee this won’t be the case with DS (who has accepted his appointment), but pondering how that would look. One would think USNA wouldn’t have appointees who would purposefully do this. I assume they request final transcripts...and if they see last semester wasn’t tended to, wonder if they have revoked offers?

I suppose they have seen it all over the years. And I suppose they can do whatever they want.

They can and have revoked offers. From a grade perspective it would have to be pretty bad to have this happen. Usually it is either medical or conduct that results in an appointee having it rescinded. Medical usually results in an LOA for the next year. Conduct is usually either something came up that didn’t during the application process or an appointee got something like a DUI after their appointment.
