C/O 2029 Waitlist Thread

I want to offer some encouragement. If anything happens, it will most likely be later this week or maybe next week. The deadline for accepting appointments was Thursday, and admissions would only have Friday to review how many people had accepted and send out offers. In other words, it’s still really early as admissions only had one business day to review and make decisions after seeing what their commitment yield was. Hang tight! I’m sure good news will be coming soon 😉
 
Doing some forensics on the forum from last year (Class of 2028 Waitlist thread), the majority of the waitlist to admission acceptance conversions appear to have been posted on May 14, 2024. It looks like they were batched out all at once.

Has anybody heard how many total waitlist offers there are? Was the waitlist shortened because of the planned smaller class for 2029? Finally, if someone rejects their waitlist spot, does admissions make up for that decline, or do they not worry about filling that spot?

I wish I knew more but from what I heard waitlist 70-120 candidates and I believe if someone rejects waitlist they keep going as long as they get to their target class size.

I totally get this and understand. My DS is cool, but as his mom, every day I'm looking at our Plan B task list, paying more deposits and scheduling things like housing, orientation (which we have to fly to during summer), academic testing, academic advising sessions, etc. It makes me anxious. He still wants to accept should his name be pulled, and I support him 100%. This type A is just being stretched by the experience. Funny how we are always learning and growing no matter the age. I'm grateful for a place to vent! Carry on it's a beautiful Tuesday.

Right there with you! My DS will be going to UND if he doesn't get pulled from the waitlist and his registration opens on the 13th, so we're watching the webinars, turning in forms, etc.

4/23/25. Today's news was quite the curveball. Plan 1A (attending a Big 10 school on a merit scholarship) has been in motion for a few months now. Changing gears this late in the game may prove to be difficult for a # of reasons. Still, we are going to give the offer the serious consideration it deserves.
 
My DS just texted me from school asking me to check his portal...portal changed from "waitlist" back to "promoted to candidate". He does have the "waitlist letter" from 4/23/25 in his communication from admissions. Just curious if anyone else waitlisted had their status change today?

Just checked and it still says "Waitlist." Maybe this is good news for you! I'm hoping the best for your DS!!!
 
I’ve heard at least one other candidate confirm their portal changed from "waitlist" back to "promoted to candidate” and they had to click to confirm waitlist again but it still just says promoted to candidate. Could be a portal glitch or movement somewhere.
