As always, start with a search of usna.edu:About how many Mids study abroad each year? Is it fairly common? I imagine it's awarded based on mid's grades. Is it generally for a semester? Do they attend other SA around the globe, or are civilian colleges offered?
... updates from USNA COMDTMIDNINST Regulation 5400.6X, 17Feb23:
* Operate a vehicle while in authorized leave status, but not drive on the yard, unless on leave and their family resides on the yard.
** Not maintain an automobile "near" USNA. The first cities where 3/C may store/use vehicles in a direction away from USNA are Pasadena, Millersville, Crofton, Davidsonville, and Stevensville. When in these cities or further and on liberty, 3/C Midshipmen may drive their cars. If a 3/C Midshipman's home of record is closer to USNA than this area, they may drive their vehicle only in directions away from USNA and then in accordance without this policy.

...confuse? Welcome to admin legalese.
... ok let's decipher--->
* Fair enough. No Mid cars on the yard.
** Not maintain a car near USNA. No need to maintain a boat; just borrow a boat and drive it to the ocean. So if your home of record is just outside gate 1, then it makes sense to drive away from the yard. Why would any Midshipmen want to drive to the yard?
...Since y’all are in the same boat as me where we plan years in advance. Elder kid picked a wedding date that could conflict with 2C parents weekend for 26. Is there an acceptable way to say “we love you and your bride, but c’mon man I gotta sit in some classes and see the room?”
(Totally kidding, Mid enjoy that crap flight.)
Procedures exist to ensure that servicemembers are safe OCONUS. They are beyond the scope of SAF. If things get too dangerous, MIDN will either not go or they will get pulled out.Our mid did get Egypt however we are not enthralled. Dept of State has been warning about travel abroad so this is a huge concern.
Weak attempt at some humor. Wife and I were just laughing that the elder kid picked a potentially conflicting date. He needs to look at the USNA calendar!

Ditto here, I was surprised he didn’t get LREC even with Chinese minor.Kid found out he didn't get any study abroad this round (Summer or Fall). Little bummed, but there will still be other chances.

You can ask to speak to the Superintendent to see if they will schedule events around your personal schedule!Don't they know that it's all about us parents and our fun![]()
I jokingly say that to my kids all the time.
