C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

DS did PRK, docs said it was the best route for him. Something about retina/cornea slippage while in G forces? IDK, I don't remember the details. I do know he was in pretty solid pain. Roomies helped, two days later he was astounded at how clear his vision was. Follow instructions to the letter, wear sunglasses.

I did Lasik back when dinosaurs were roaming, quick recovery, annoying part was the first 48 hours, drops required like every 30 minutes around the clock. Those that I spoke to who complained about dry eye post recovery admitted to not doing the drops per the schedule.
DS did prk and was the most painful week of his life. Fell the week before an exam period so there was a double dose of pain. He can see amazingly well now and I am extremely jealous!

6 weeks almost done!

Kid will be going out with his HS buddies this afternoon/evening before hopping in my car (his is at our house while we await a replacement fuel pump) and driving down to meet us in Rehoboth Beach for the weekend.

Just what we need to worry about. A 21-year old kid driving a manual transmission 370hp sports coupe 160 miles on a Friday night alone. What could go wrong??? :p

Fellow Class of '26 parents, your mid share any ring order info. Through some searching, it looks like they need to order this week. Curious if anyone knows the deposit amount.

Yeah, kid hit us up yesterday with the info on what he'd like to do. Wifey didn't grasp the potential magnitude of how much they could be, and even though I asked her ahead of time about the prospect of getting the ring for the dude, a rather, uh, heated ..... discussion ...... followed.

They have to put an order in this week. I do not think a deposit is required, but they will not do credit/debit for the deposit. Only check or money order. They have payment plans. (Kid sent a pic of the deposit policy to us yesterday).

He isn't planning anything elaborate at all and it was less than $1k. I know some kids go way over the top, which I'll never understand. We may just end up contributing some and he can cover the rest if he wants something more.

Thanks! Yeah the form I found online had the order dates, but when I pinged DS last night he wasn't aware. I met the people in midstore on 2nd class parents weekend, but I didn't realize they were just there if you want a special stone.
Yeah I was blown away the prices and how some in the flyer look like superbowl rings. I want to help if it is basic ring as a grad gift.

An excerpt from a USNA Alumni email sent back in August

1-3 October ∼ Ring Ordering Dahlgren Hall ∼ 2nd Deck 10 a.m.-5 p.m

I am also including the order instructions email attachment.

Here is a catalog link, hopefully it works.

So, dude's 6-weeks actually carried on into this week. Got some scores back, all passing so far. Thinks that he's actually sitting on a 3.5 SQPR right now!

I said, "Shooting for the Supe's list, eh?" He laughed and said there are still the 12-weeks before he can think about that. ;)

Said his classmate has the ASTB study guide. He wants to actually prepare for it when he takes it again. He scored well enough for NFO taking it "blind." But, they take your latest score, not your best. Hopefully he does better.

Educate this clueless mom on ASTB.

What she said ^^^.

Long story short? Test for potential Naval pilots and Naval flight officers. Combination of test questions and physical reactions to stimulus. The combination of your scores are used to see if you qualify for one, or both (or none).

That ^^^^.

If they want to be considered for a flight billet during service selection, they need to take it and attain the minimum corresponding scores associated with their selection.
