Per KKTV. So glad the truth came out. Certainly a lot of accusations and bad press can be put to rest. The media was quick to post the story, will major media be quick to update it?
 
But General Silveria's speech was so impassioned! Do facts really need to vitiate such virtue?

Our 2016 Academy grad son saw it coming. He commented that while anything is possible, based off of experience, he said there are very few racist cadets at the Academy.

In the Gazette, officials said that the cadet candidate "committed the act in a bizarre bid to get out of trouble he faced at the school for other misconduct". That didn't work out so swell for him.

And according to https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...the-air-force-academy/?utm_term=.1b7e0ab0fe5e , this is one of several recent “hate crime hoaxes” around the country. In the linked article ^^, they list some recent examples.

At least at some level, there is at some self loathing going on which is very unfortunate. Potentially, those thoughts and actions were a way to protect himself against disappointment. Unfortunately, damage to the reputation to the Academy has already been done. :(
 
News media nowadays puts lots of focus on politicizing anything possible. The public is no longer getting the level of quality news it has before.
Glad this case has been resolved.
 
When this first occurred, I mentioned to my DH ('79 grad) that I wouldn't be surprised if the person responsible was of the same minority.
Very sad and unfortunate this individual was so self-centered to cause the publicity about and tarnish the reputation of the Academy. Definitely, the CC did not belong.

Gen Silveria's speech is still appropriate. Racism is not limited to different ethnicity, but occurs within as well.
 
I don’t believe a single nationally reported similar incident in at least the last year or so has been real. 100% were determined to be fake.

Same here - right when the news came out, I also mentioned my guess of possible accomplice to DH, but not to DS.
 
It is really sad people try to start race wars when there are none. The academy is about unity along with our country and I am glad truth is coming out about those who try to falsely divide us. I don't think one major MSM will follow up and update the story that there really is no racial tension at the academy. They work to keep division not unity.

I disagree. It would depend on whom you ask. If you held some focus groups with minority cadets you would find that there is tension. Not a surprise since we seem to be about as polarized as we were during Vietnam. I have stories told in confidence so I will not share them here, but if focus groups were held, you would conclude that there are some easily achieved (low $) accommodations that would improve their feelings of acceptance. Feel free to PM me if anyone is interested.
 
Unfortunately, there's inevitable racial tension to some degree everywhere we go, but I am glad that when evidence is present that the SAs get rid of racist students. These kids get commissioned as officers and it's not safe or fair to have an officer who may treat a soldier unfairly (from any degree ranging from mild to abusive, mistreatment is mistreatment) or fail to promote a deserving, promotable soldier into a slot that would benefit both the soldier and the battalion.

Well, at least one major network is covering the story, but not without a spin, of course. Curious to see if others pick it up and their spin.

The problem becomes Crying Wolf. Next time something like this happens, instead of investigating the racist comment, the first thought will be that it is a fake

I just went to get a sandwich. Turned on the Sat radio to CNN. They were in the middle of a story about the Prep school incident. I think they qualify as both "Major" and "Mainstream".

So I guess this makes you all prejudicial.

Fortunately, Gen. Silveria and the investigators were not.

CNN only spent 2 minutes on it. Rest easy, though. Sean, Tucker, and Laura will give you all you can handle this evening.

Unfortunately, I only had/have access to the websites, not TV or radio. At the time, only Fox had something about it. I kept checking CNN, but they just recently (last few minutes) put it on their website.

So, no, not prejudiced; just stating the facts as they were at the time. I take a bit of offense at the accusation.

I'm sure more media sites will cover it as the day goes on.

I really don't consider any of the "news" sites or mainstream media trustworthy or able to report on anything in an unbiased manner. I have felt this way for over 40 years.
 
A bit off topic, but let me give you a true story about how the media slants stories to sensationalize or make it more interesting to catch the readers/viewers attention:

About 40+ years ago, my cousin and I went to a bowling center in a decent size town. It was evening and dark. As we were approaching the bowling center, we noticed something odd on the other side of the road. Mind you, this was a residential area, not rural. As we approached, we found a horse eating next to the road next to a chain-link enclosed yard (not the horse's home). We caught the horse so it would not get hit by a car and called the local police. This was across the street and more than 200 yards from the bowling center and the home was about 100 feet away as well. The police came and I guess finally tracked down the owner. We went on to the the bowling center to enjoy our evening. The next day, in the newspaper, the headlines read, "Horse found peeking in Window of Home". Seriously? After that, I look at and listen to anything in the news with a distrusting eye and ear.

CNN... LOL.

I always check Fox News first, which usually has some positive and some negative about President Trump. Then I check CNN. I have both news sites favorited so I can check easily. I challenge you to find any positive reports on CNN about the President. They "spin" (See what I did there?) At every opportunity to try to influence the viewer or reader.

Now I know what you're thinking... "that's because there is nothing positive about him." You gave yourself away in true liberal fashion when you tried to infer that we were conservatives that receive our daily brainwashing from Fox News.

The recent attempts to smear President Trump over the call to a gold star mom showed the mindset of the people at the helm of CNN. The president has been a staunch supporter of the military, and has acknowledged their losses and victories more than his predecessor. He won't get a fair shake from your channel of choice.

It's been 10 months since the inauguration. Usually a chapped hind end heals a lot faster than that. Try some Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. It should help.
