So I've been browsing the forum looking for a definitive answer as to what exactly factors into your class ranking as a cadet outside of GPA and PT scores. I know there is weight on extracurricular activities, volunteering, and sports but I was hoping someone could outline it on here. I was looking to play hockey at my #1 school next fall during my freshman year, but I was also thinking about waiting until sophomore year so I don't overexert myself freshman year. What is the weight on each of these factors and how much EC, volunteering, and sports is too much? And also what volunteering opportunities should I be looking for?

As you can see the GPA is worth a lot more than EC's, and the points for gpa falls off rapidly.

Look at the helpful tips and you will see the ec activities are at the end.

Don't sacrifice your gpa to pick up a few ec points.

ACHA Hockey even at the DIII level can be a grind. My #2 Son played ACHA DI hockey & was on the ice for practice 3 nights a week , 2 games per weekend during the season, out of town games approx. 1-2 weekends a month. Schedule usually went from late September up onto the beginning of March ( If memory serves me right). Check with the head coach at Embry-Riddle, as too number of practices during the week, how long the season is, number of out of games usually scheduled per season. Etc... that way you can make the choice that is best for you. The only ROTC Cadet I knew that played on my son's team, actually quit the team as soon as he contracted to concentrate on ROTC and school.

In looking at the various point values for Academics, what is meant by Command Interest Items and Academic Disciplines? One could almost imagine that they are the same thing.

Command Interest Items are things such as public speaking, published articles, community awards, etc.

Academic discipline is the tier in which your academic major falls - ADM 1 is Generalist, 2 is Technical Mgmt, 3 is Physical Science/Analytical and 4 is Engineering.
