Hi!

I'm currently in my third year at USAFA. I'll be a senior soon and I'm really looking forward to leading the Class of 2022. I'm prior enlisted and I also went to a civilian college for a year before I applied to the Academy. Please, let me know if you have any questions!

Congrats on your upcoming senior year. I received my TWE 2 weeks ago. Still on the prep s, FS list. If I don’t receive non. what is the best option for me.. Militarily school, AfROTC. Or just 1yr of regular college? Please advise!

From what I know, most of Preppies receive appointment to come to the Academy unless they're in legal conflict or failing down at the P. If this is your situation and you know that you're not getting a spot at the Academy then I would ask myself if military life is something that you want to pursue. Are you willing to follow the rules and deal with people telling you what to do? Are you willing to sacrifice personal gain/pleasure? If not then I wouldn't suggest pursuing the AFRTOC. I did little bit of ROTC while I was at UCONN. It is definitely much more relaxing than the Academy, but they still have the same expectations as they do at the Academy. If you didn't earn your spot at the Academy and you are willing to pursue the military life, then I highly suggest AFROTC. From experience, I think civilian universities grade more generously. They don't emphasize too much on core classes like the Academy which allows you to pursue your interest and your degree. Grade inflation in civilian institutions are very helpful if you want a good GPA.

Something you should keep in mind is that you will not get any of the experiences that you get at the Academy without paying a lot of money. Cadets have tremendous opportunities and you'll be able to experience most of that if you work hard here. It's up to you to take the challenge. Stay positive because this place can wear you out. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO CAN BENEFIT YOU AND ARE WILLING TO MAKE BETTER.

Hi!

I just asked one of my International friends at the Academy. If you are an international Cadet in doolie who hasn’t been recognized yet, you have to leave the Academy with your service dress on and you can change before boarding your plane to go back to your home country for winter break. These rules typically change so I wouldn’t worry about that right now.

As far as the cellphone situation, your phone will be confiscated during basic Cadet training. After the completion of your training, they’ll give it back to you.

I would definitely bring everything on the check list. I would try to pack lightly. I wouldn't bring any electronics beside your cellphone. I only brought a backpack with me. It was very helpful. You'll see people with a big luggage. You probably won't benefit from carry more than you have to.

It gives the reasoning for placement diagnostic right on the portal...
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Air Force Academy considers your AP test scores and your performance on this Math Placement Diagnostic when selecting your initial math class. Proper placement into an appropriate math course is an important part of your successful beginning at the Air Force Academy. The results of your Math Placement Diagnostic must ACCURATELY reflect your skills and ability.

The Math Placement Diagnostic has three sections. Calculators, computers, and smartphones are NOT permitted for use on any part of the diagnostic. Moreover, any outside aid such as textbooks, the internet, other people, etc. are not allowed during any section of the diagnostic. It is imperative that you work diligently and honestly while completing the Math Placement Diagnostic. Your integrity throughout this process is essential because inaccurate placement leads to poor performance and repetition of courses at the Academy.

I can take the ap test at the academy?because on my portal the tell me to take it now online

No, @Yassim95. There are two exams - the official AP exam of the College Board which is going to be the morning of May 15th and for which you would already be registered at your high school. The other exam is the placement exam for USAFA which is in three parts and administered online. The AP exam will NOT be done at the academy. USAFA will only look at the results of your placement exam (which you do at home online) and any results that you have the College Board send them, assuming you have also taken an AP exam. Hope this clarifies.

it's not clear yet.
I will take the AP exam that will be the morning of 15th may?or it is online the online AP test?

Yassim,

You should take the online test that you have the link to on the USAFA portal. That is a USAFA test, not the AP test.

The AP test (AP stands for Advanced Placement) is given to US High School seniors who have completed mathematics AP classes in high school. You will not be eligible to take the test since you are an International student, unless you somehow took an AP class in your high school.

USAFA will calculate your placement based on your online test for USAFA. You can disregard the AP test.

I'm a prior who got accepted to the Prep. Was there anything you had shipped to you or wish you had shipped to you as you got more rights in the Prep school (Coffee maker, jackets, room decoration)? Same question goes for the actual Academy.
