The invitation states that cadets must be in "Mess Dress". Do 4 degrees have Mess Dress at this time. Do they buy their own when ever the need arises or can they where service dress.

4 digs won't have mess dress and are not expected to buy them now. Mess dress is distributed to 2 digs, so even 3 digs won't have mess dress. However, 3 digs will occassionally borrow mess dress from an upperclass cadet that is not attending a ball. 4 digs will be expected to attend in service dress.

My sons attended the local ball last year as 3 digs in service dress. The only 2* or under cadet in mess dress here had an older brother who was an Academy grad and borrowed his.

you are more than welcome to borrow mess dress if you would like. being in choir, i had my mess dress since 4 dig year so i wore mess dress all four years. but either is acceptable.
