California Candidates

My DS received his call from congresswoman today...appointment is on the way! CA-44
Congratulations! We will see you June 30th when we take our son to indoc. Make sure to join the parents 2019 facebook group.

It's feeling like things are coming to a stop. My DS called admissions, but they just say you are on Hold..that's it. I guess it's time to seriously look at plan B. Darn it!!!! Best of luck to those who are on their way this summer!

Hang in there. A number of those who have received offers of appointment still have until 1 May to either formally accept or decline. After that you may see a number of those on "hold" receive offers. Good luck!

BFE is on the way! Portal changed to "Principal Fully Qualified" this morning! So excited to continue working towards my goals, and to be able to swim for the Mariners!

Congrats everyone!! Happy Easter too! I'm still on Hold and nothing really has changed since December. I got a chance to speak with the Commandant and gave him my name. He wrote it down and I also gave the Admissions Director my current grades (All A's or A-'s, My school doesn't give A+'s). Hopefully I get an appointment, but for the most part, I have started preparing to go to my plan B.

Also to all still on Hold:

a man named @QBsdad wrote this to me while I was in the nitty gritty of the process:

"We are here at KP on a visit with my DS right now. We spent the entire day talking with current students and admissions folks. We had lunch with the Regiment. They only accept 250 out of over 7000 applicants. Based on what I've seen in your posts and my observations from today I would suggest you get a back up plan."

I recognized this as uneducated and pessimistic and discarded it. Today I have an appointment in hand to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

The morale of the story is:

1) NEVER give up or give in. You know your worth, go out there and get it.
2) NEVER listen to those who detract from your vision with condescension.
3) KEEP the faith, and know that there is an omnipotent, omniscient being looking out for your health, well-being, and fulfillment intellectual and otherwise.

Point is you will have many adversaries, confront them respectfully and always listen more than you speak...Even if their words are disheartening, never take them to heart; merely, analyze them objectively and adapt if necessary.

Closing quotation, "Winners NEVER quite, and quitters NEVER win." I believe this now more than ever.

Thanks very much for reading and good luck to all!!

Exactly this.

Usnavy, my son just received his this past weekend. I'm certain there are more to come. Hang in there.

Thanks Joe Gish for your encouragement....my DS status just changed to "Principal Fully Qualified" this morning! It's a great day for my son and our family. He will be playing lacrosse for the Mariners next year!
Congratulations! My son is a lacrosse player and is a member of class of 2019. Looking forward to watching some games. We went to the season opener when USMMA beat Coast Guard by 10. See you June 30th

All SoCal parents, when your DS/DD accept their appointment, consider signing up fo the " USMMA Southern California Parents' Association" in addition to the "USMMA Class of 2019 Parents" Facebook groups

Is the May 1 deadline on the letter of appointment? If not where did you get that date? In my DS hold letter it talks of 16 April as being another milestone for appointments so would have thought the deadline was 15 April.

Two Items...
I believe, based on last year, the May 1 date is/was the last date to accept/decline the appointment. Appointments were/are handed/sent out after May 1 to hold candidates based on number of candidates who declined their appointment. Not sure what the April 16 date is for.

Next point...even when you are at the academy, you should keep a backup plan...plebe candidates quit after indoc, plebes are discharged from the academy for medical reasons...this happened to two plebes this past August and November...they needed a backup plan...others are separated for academic reasons...so in my humble opinion, the moral of the story...this was and is not "uneducated" - I would call this, being prepared, proactive, intelligent and aware that things can happen and change.

Best of luck to all.

Swabthedecks: Yes. The appointment letter gives the appointee three options: 1) Accept; 2) Decline; defer decision to accept or decline to no later than "the Candidate Acceptance Date of 01 May."
