Has anyone heard from our California Senators? I am having my Congressional interview soon, but have heard nothing from the two Senators.
I understand they interview by the telephone. Sounds like a lot of people have already had interviews in their states.

I live in Northern California and what the staffers told me was that they will call us around mid- December to set up an appointment where they have someone call us in early January to conduct the interview. This could change though. Good luck!

Hello fellow Californians! I have also heard that they would call us (if deemed qualified) in mid-Dec for early Jan telephone interviews.

I also heard that they only call around 70 people... If so, does that mean 70 for each academy or 70 total?

Gawdd. Why do I have to live in the biggest state?! WHY?!

Do you know if Senator Feinstein's doing phone interviews? I've heard this from a USAFA graduate he didn't do an interview with Feinstein but received her nomination.

Really? He must have been such an outstanding applicant that she just gave it to him. It doesn't say on her website that she does the telephone based interviews but Boxers' does.

Senator Feintein's office called today for my son. They are doing phone interviews this weekend.

Same here - got the call today to set up a Saturday phone interview. Feinstein's website doesn't mention interviews so I guess they keep people guessing. . . .

I had my phone interview with Feinstein's office Saturday the 19th. They called me back today informing me that I received a nomination from the Senator. However, since I already have a nomination from my Congressman, they are going to give it to the next person in line.

Which Service Academy was your nomination for? My son did his phone interview with Feinstein's West Point interviewers on Saturday the 13th, haven't heard anything back from them. His local rep. interviews were the same day and those slates will take about 3 weeks to finalize. I imagine that the senators want to be sure that they do not duplicate a nomination since they get so many applicants.

Go Army-

My nomination was for the Air Force Academy. The same happened with my rep. too. His office called me the next day to give me the news. If I remember correctly, my rep.'s office was going to inform the Senators of their decision. If I may, what district are you from?

Senator Feinstein's office told me that they would not be sending out her final nominations until the our Congressmen submit the list of who they are nominating to her and then Senator Boxer will follow suit. They said that they do not want to accidently double nominate anyone from California because there are so many candidates from California. Hope that helps.

We are from CA-11 (McNerney). They did their in-person interviews on the 13th, but had some candidates that couldn't be there - they were to be interviewed by phone the following weekend. That's why their slates will be delayed a week.

In that case, I would definitely not worry about Feinstein's choice. I would give it another week or so. Best of luck to your son.

Son received Feinstein's nomination for USMA today.

Same here. Feinstein's office left a message saying that son got the nomination for USMA. They asked to be contacted in the event he received a nomination from another source.

Go Army, congratulations to your son. So is your son going to accept his appointment? My son is so happy to know that he's done with the nomination process.

My son got a call from Congresswoman Tauscher's office today letting him know that his appt package to the Naval Academy will arrive on Tuesday. He is thrilled! We live in Northern California.

Just got call from Boxer's office for interview! I've been waiting forever on my nomination status from my congressman.

CA Senators and Reps coordinate so it's quite possible you'll have a little longer to wait after the interview ... good luck! Your rep may be waiting to see if you get a Senator nom. It is highly probably the rep knows you are interviewing for a Senator nom. CA is a very competitive state. If a rep knows one of their candidates is in the running for a senator nom they often hold their slate back pending the senator decision. Similarly, if the senators know a rep is going to give a nom to a particular candidate the senator will often not interview the candidate. They coordinate very closely and try very hard not to award dupe noms, though dupes do occur.

Good luck on your interview and let us know how it goes.
