Calling All Football Fans

Nothing at all to do with this topic...sorta

EVERY year when Army football comes up I am reminded of a dinner at USAFA during, I think, my doolie year.

There was this mid on exchange and he was telling us all about some song at USMA...I think it's a fight song or alma mater or something like that...

Anyway, he replaced the words with something like this..

"WE don't play NOTRE DAME, NO WE DON'T!"
"WE don't play PENN STATE...."
"WE just play HOLY CROSS!"
"Cause thats the EASY ARMY way..."

And I smile, laugh a little, and then look at the USMA bathrobe in my closet. It's right next to my USNA and USAFA robes...

HOPEFULLY this year the "zoomies" at USAFA can also get some robes like that!

The '60s USNA version:

"We don't play Notre Dame...........
We don't play Tulane..............
We just play Davidson.............
Because that's the grand old Army way."

Always sung by the Brigade when Army marched onto the field in Philadelphia.

We didn't even bet bath robes with AFA because the rivalry hadn't developed yet. I don't think we even played them every year. But the Army ones were the nicest.

Someone had to point out to the middies what Army was doing, since they have no idea what marching is.

Sorry Bruno-
Virginia had no trouble VMI, they won 48-7
Saw a local product take his first snaps at UVA-Ross Metheny is from my area of the world.....

I think I overheard the daughter's boyfriend say that VMI brought 20 bus loads to the game....Either way, there were a lot of them.....

My son tells me the game wasn't as close as it appears from the score:eek:

And Congratulations to Mass Maritime on beating Coast Guard 23-16 yesterday:thumb:

Man- there were some good games yesterday (or lousy ones depending on your pov):Texas-UCLA:thumb::thumb::thumb: Horns were riding on their last years reputation. Alabama-Arkansas- almost a big upset there! Stanford -ND :thumb::thumb:
And both AFA and Army- Great job!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

LOL, ain't that the truth! A couple of years ago I went early for the march on. Navy marched on first and looked fine and dandy in their blue coats as they strolled onto the field. Then Army marched on. The gasp from the stands was heard throughout the stadium - even the Navy parents could not deny that West Point cadets can march.

About Notre Dame - Army has them back on the schedule this year, the game will be in the Bronx.

IRRC, Navy and Notre Dame have some sort of agreement dating back to WWII that they will always play each other. I can't remember all the details but it goes back when ND nearly went bankrupt and Navy bailed out their football team by giving them old uniforms. It's why ND wears the same uniform as Navy - blue and gold even though their school colors are green and gold.

Army handled Duke well on Sat. Barring a total collapse, I see a bowl game this year.

Went to the game last year and everyone kept telling us beforehand about the huge difference between the 2 Academies in regards to the march-on.
We were like, 'yea - OK- whatever.'
OH MY - there was such a huge difference. The cadets looked sharp! And love those Long-O's!!
I know, I know - USNA has no reason to be proficient in marching because there is no need to march on ships. Not sure when the last time Army marched on the battlefields though.:smile:

No tickets available (at least from Army) :frown:

What a great story. I went to the UND athletics web page to read more about this and they gave a history of the colors. They didn't mention this particular story but geeez for the past 50 years they can't seem to decide if their home jersey is green or blue. It goes back and forth, back and forth....

Wouldn't that be great!!!

I think Army designates by hight so they look better and more uniform? Navy should check the Company accordingly. The story is that Notre Dame was going bankrupt during WWII because of all the prospective students entering or drafted into the service. Navy agreed to make Notre Dame a Naval Officer Training School and sent a lot of student officers to the school. They then donated their old blue and gold uniforms for the football team. Sounds good. Because of the support ND has said that they will always have Navy on their schedule. That's the story as I have heard it.

Go Mass Maritime.

Hmm... could be. I 'think' that is the general rule with parade. Maybe a cadet will pipe in here and inform us all.

Last year at March On, DS stood next to his roommate who is a several inches taller, but that may have been because of the special circumstance that DS had never marched before because he was on a corps sports team (therefore didn't do parade in the Fall) and his roommate was telling him what to do during the March On.

Another thing I noticed with Navy that made them look not as sharp once on the field was that their covers were not all on at the same angle and being white it was very noticeable. Well - at least from the nose bleed section that we were sitting in.

Another tough loss for Army. :frown: They were doing just fine before we got to Michie - late in the 3rd Q ( Ugggg - don't ask :unhappy: ). Still bowl eligible but it won't be easy.
Congrats to AF ! Good game. That facemask near the end of the game was brutal though. Scary watching it in slow motion.
Watching Florida self destruct against Bama. Florida over rated or is Bama just that good?

Coast Guard pulled out a tough NEFC Bogan Division victory over Fitchburg State on Homecoming Weekend, 19-7.

The win was dedicated to Head Coach George, who's mother passed away on Thursday at age 82.

"The team gave the game ball to George, who left immediately thereafter for his hometown of Glens Falls, N.Y., where his mother's funeral is scheduled for Monday.

"It was nice to pull out the win for him," Gerken said of the coach. "He came in yesterday and we said, 'Why are you here? You should be with your family.' He told us he was with his family and that's us. That was nice. All we wanted to do was pull out the win for coach."

Yes an no. All cadets who are present for duty must participate in the march-on. Cadets are no exempted for being short.

The height discrimination comes in when you form up for march-on, or any parade. The first sergeant will call fall-in. Then, he will instruct all cadets who are taller than the cadet in front of them to move forward. He will then order a right face, and repeat the command. In this way, the tallest marcher in the company theoretically ends up as the anchor man, in the squad-leader position of the front rank (right front of the company, left front as viewed by the fans).

No more complaining, Army fans. It's funny to hear cadets groan about one loss (only the second of the year). Back in the Old Corps  they were so damn abysmal...0-13 is a looooooong season to stomach.

Won't be any complaining today (except by USCGA fans - 2 OT's ).
Great victories for Army, Navy, Air Force and KP. :thumb::thumb:
Another exciting day for college football although I didn't get to see ANY games today as I was on planes all day :frown: but thank goodness for my ESPN app .
And the 'Old Ball Coach' pulled one out against the #1 team.

Just got home from Winston-Salem. I cannot comprehend those who say Navy football is boring. Bent but didn't break. Much more balanced offense. I now have renewed faith that USNA can retain the CIC trophy. Go Army, Beat AF!!!!!

You can only retain it if Army beats AF.

You can only retain it if Army beats AF.
Ergo, my "Go Army, Beat AF!!!!!! and then, of course, implied victory of Navy over Army. Then, everyone will be 1-1 and, by the rules, the current owner will retain the trophy

You are far more confident than I am, my friend.
