Will my daughter be allowed to keep her wallet on I-Day or do I need to send it in the first goodie box?

What about her camera? She received a really nice one for graduation -- can it go in the first goodie box (though I hate mailing it when I cannot call her to make sure she received it) or do I need to wait until parents' weekend to bring it to her. I doubt she will have a lot of time during plebe summer to be taking pictures but, just in case there is that odd moment to take a picture with the roommates, etc.

Can she show up to I-Day wearing her small gold studs or do we need to bring them on parents' weekend?

I know these are all minor concerns but they are some of the ones I still haven't resolved and would love to check them off my "find out about . . ." list.

BTW, DMeix - picking up clues from your posts I think you may be the young man my daughter shared a shuttle back to the airport with after her April CW. If so, she enjoyed talking to you and hearing about the great experiences you had that weekend.

I have never heard of wallets being an issue. However, I strongly recommend it be something SMALL where she can carry some cash, her ID, and that's it. Don't bring one of those monstrosities women love to carry around in their handbags, because you won't have a handbag to carry it in.

Wait until the academic year. She will not have time to be shooting pictures during Plebe Summer.

Those will be fine. I seem to remember females were issued a set of gold studs as part of their Box Issue. Perhaps USNA1985 can clarify that from her experience. I do know gold studs are a uniform item, so I'm pretty confident there's a set in the Issue.

Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match....

Unfortunately, I don't have pierced ears, so don't know from personal experience. However, as I recall from my roommates, you are allowed to wear small brushed gold/gold tone studs -- and only brushed gold studs -- with your uniform during Plebe Summer and during Ac Year. Pearl studs are permitted with mess dress. As I recall, no other earrings are allowed with uniforms.

That's my recollection as well.

Oh, and for the record, my ears aren't pierced, either. I'm just very observant.

It's okay Zaphod, we're all friends here, you can share your story.

Thanks for the information. My daughter hates carrying a purse, her wallet is a small ladies' ones that she can slip in her pocket so it sounds like she should be fine. Small gold studs on I-Day, camera on parents' weekend, check, check. As to matchmaking . . . hah!, that is so not me. Zaphod, just wait until your daughters get older.

I recall talking to your daughter that weekend. That was a nice way to end the weekend.

As for matchmaking...that'll the be LAST thing I'll be worried about this year.

As I recall, we were not allowed to wear any earrings. But then again, the Class of '79 was the last all male class. So the restriction was understandable.

Per Navy uniform regs, women may have a single piercing in each earlobe. No other piercings are allowed. Men may not wear earrings in uniform.
