The USNA site says anyone with a physical education degree, I don't know if a trainer counts. He's certified and all that. Thanks for any help, in advance.

I also asked my RD, but I will be seeing this trainer soon today and wanted to ask as early as possible.

He does, but it is not updated for my state, he says. I assume he meant some sort of certification, but maybe the standards are different between states for coaches.

A degree is a college degree, not a certification. I suggest you follow the recommendations on the test and use a coach, BGO, etc.

The USNA instructions for the CFA are conflicting, depending on what part of the USNA Admissions site you consult.

On the main splash page for the "Steps To Admission (8) Candidate Fitness Assessment" it states:

The test can be administered by anyone with a physical education degree, an active duty officer, or a blue and gold officer.

Yet if you click the Candidate Fitness Assessment Instructions on that same page, you get:

The CFA MUST be administered by a high school/prep school physical education teacher, team coach, commissioned officer (for military candidates), or the candidate's Blue and Gold Officer.

Following the first instruction, your next door neighbor with a PE degree can administer it.

Following the second instruction, any high school coach or PE teacher, with or without a PE degree, can administer it.

I asked my RD to be sure. He said he got his degree in Iowa, I think he figured I was asking if he was able to get a coaching job here without updating some information (which I believe is how it works...). I know that the coach I was going to have administer the assessment doesn't have a physical education degree, on the other hand, but he is a coach... Confusing.

This is what you get when things are written by a committee. The CFA is common for 4 of the 5 academies but the requirements on who can give it is not exactly common. If you plan on applying to more than USNA you may want to review the requirements for the other academies as well.
