Can Anyone Gauge My Chances/How Competitive Am I?

I really appreciate the feedback. He has a 3.82ish gpa and about 28 comp on act. 17 out of 164 in his class.

At USMMA, admissions uses class ranking over GPAs. His ACT is kind of low, definitely below average, and he isn't even in the top 10% of his class. Unless he's a diversity/athletic target, I wouldn't hold my breath for USMMA, much less West Point, should probably have a solid back up plan.

FYI......if it will give you some hope, my DS stats were identical to those you posted above for your DS and he was accepted and is currently sailing around the world during his first sea year. Good luck!

That definitely helped his (and my ) outlook. When did your DS find out he was in? Our MOC didnt send out nominations till mid Jan and of course the 2 he got were not the 2 apps he had finished. I think he finished his app around the first of this month.

I wouldn't give up hope yet. I finished in the 35th percentile of my class with a 3.9 GPA. The class rankings were all screwed up with my HS being an IB school and I was not in the program. Good Luck!

OK-- Hoping i can get some feedback. My DS is wanting to retake his Sat or ACT to try to improve his score. The Act is in April and Sat in May. Am i throwing money down a well?

Ask your admissions rep if there is time or if it would be helpful
Building off of this, Admissions is always a big help no matter the question. Very important that DS call his admissions officer because it will show that he is taking the initiative.
Kings Point is closed today due to more bad weather, your your admissions rep. Will likely not be there. Should be open tomorrow.

My DS had an overnight visit at USMMA around mid March 2016. He found out while he was there on the visit that he had been accepted! His application was completed by Feb. 1st. Hope this helps!

The last date they accepted was February.

Those math scores are a major problem for any academy.

If USMMA initiated the medical waiver process, that is a good indication of their interest. SAT math score is low, but I have seen many with similar scores accepted. Plebe Candidates are tested for math placement during Indoc. They have extra math help for those who need it. Your DS might also be a candidate for a sponsored prep school spot. Obviously, admissions saw something in your package they liked because you are on hold status rather than TWE recipient. Hang in there. Many more appointments to come!

Yep, math is a weakness.

Thanks for the encouragement and not pointing out how bad his math scores are! LOL!
He'll take prep. I think he could use a year to strengthen his math scores and acclimate to life outside of the protective bubble he grew up in in Germany. His dad is a USMA grad and said he would have preferred a year at prep over going straight in. His plebe year was the most stressful time in his life.

QWE123=FCH76 I forgot that I had already registered

Maybe West Point will take him because he's a legacy and his dad is a high ranking army officer? His class ranking is low and his SAT scores, especially math which they care about more are pretty low. I would say probably not for USMMA. Also, his stats are high enough that they probably won't consider him for prep school anyway. He's overqualified for prep school and underqualified for admission. Tough spot.

I think the class ranking isn't a fair way to score. He has a 3.7 and is 61 in his class out of 193. I remember having a 3.4 in high school and I was ranked 13 out of 94 (but I also went to a school in Alabama in a small town). His high school is full of high achievers. Maybe it would have been better to be at a less competitive school. We have our fingers crossed for any prep. His dad was on the admissions board at WP so he has a bit of insight into the process. But I think it could go either way at this point. He did just find out that he received a 4 year AFROTC Scholarship so the back up plan is falling in to place. His ultimate goal is to commission and serve.

If his ultimate goal is to serve as a military officer, then he should just take the ROTC scholarship and stop considering attending USMMA. USMMA is a school that educates maritime officers, not military officers. Going to KP isn't the best preparation for the active duty world. Countless people will tell you this, it's not a secret. I've been at USMMA a few years and have heard about the glitches with going active duty ad nauseam.
