I am currently applying to West Point but am also considering the Air Force Academy due to its technologically inclined atmosphere.

I haven’t gotten any nominations yet, but if I do, can I use them for multiple SA at the same time?

No. Each nomination is specific for the specified Academy. Can you win a nomination from the same official for different Academies? Yes, if that official doesn't have a policy against it. (As in some Senatorial/Representatives noms in large or highly competitive states) :wiggle:

No. Each nomination is good for only the designated SA. It’s possible for MOC 1 to nominate you for SA X and MOC 2 to nominate you for SA X. It’s also possible for MOC 1 to nominate you for SA X and SA Y. But MOC 1 cannot give you an “open” nom that’s usable for any SA. Each nom is specific to an SA.

Please take a few moments to read the very well-written sticky atop this forum re nominations. You’ll learn just about all there is to know.

(Cross-posted with the good Mr. @MullenLE.)

Also make sure and completely understand each nominating sources own requirements, deadline and processes. They are individualized to that nominating source. Their deadlines are their own, some as early as September (the earliest I have heard), before the SA deadlines.

How does one go about requesting nomination for more than one academy? DS is looking into 2 academies and is not sure if recommendation letters should mention such or should he attach a separate sheet regarding both? Does he need to send in two non packets, each specific to each academy?

It’s however the elected officials’ websites direct the applicant to submit. Your son is presumably researching 2 Senators’ and 1 Representative’s websites. They have autonomy in what they request, how they want it submitted, deadline to submit, etc.

Quite often it will be one application with the option to select which SAs he desires to be considered for a nomination.

If he still has questions, he can email or call the staffer in the elected official’s office.

Punt to him as the owner of the process, see what he comes up with.

In our house district, there weren’t ten applicants for some of the SAs, so all it took to get a second one was by asking.

I suspect it is harder for senate and competitive districts that have more than ten applicants.

And - some state elected officials collaborate to “spread the wealth” and not duplicate noms among themselves for the same person, or they may only allow 1 SA to be applied for.

And if applying to USMMA, you can apply to a MOC outside of your district, however in our case, our son reached out for applications from all MOC's in his state out of our district and all replied with, we take applicants from our district to serve our constituents. So, even though legal, they are not obligated to. So much to navigate and learn!
