Can Falcon Foundation Scholars still gain an appointment this year?

What is the criteria for Falcon Scholars and Prep School appointments? If you have a good SAT and high GPA will you even be considered for these if you aren't appointed?
I had a 30 ACT, a 3.97 unweighted, and a 4.4 weighted gpa so I would consider those to be a good test score and good gpa and I got a falcon foundation scholarship this year. I think they evaluate anyone for the scholarship that they believe could do well at the academy, but either need some work or they simply do not have a spot for.

Thank you so much, I wasn't sure how they did it. And yes those are good scores and GPA, so it gives others hope that if they don't get appointed they have a shot at prep or falcon. Best of luck to you

Justwalkingby, More information for your thoughts. My daughter is a Sophomore at USAFA and was a Falcon Foundation. She had to make some of the same decisions to make as you are going through. Her grades, ACT scores and other activities you listed was very similar to hers. She really wanted to attend the USAFA but was given a Type 1 Navy ROTC scholarship which pretty much opened up many civilian schools. Her goal was to hopefully fly but if not she was interested in several other career paths that both Navy and Air Force had. She kept going back to not really wanting to be on ships and really wanting to be part of the USAF so she chose the Falcon Foundation Scholarship. She has never regretted her decision. She did have to internalize it taking her 5 years instead of 4 years which seemed to her at that time as for ever like for every. Many of her friends now are those that she met through the Falcon Foundation. There are about 25 % or so of each class that are not straight out of high school. It seems to me that her friend group are from that 25% pool of cadets. All of her Falcon Foundation friends have turned 21 years old their Sophomore year which has opened up some weekend activities that you would not be able to do until your Junior year.

She did not receive a nomination to the Naval Academy but I did asked her if she had been given a Naval Academy appointment would she have taken that over her Falcon Foundation scholarship. At that time she told me that she would have accepted the Naval Academy appointment. I asked her the same question about 6 months ago and she said she has no regrets with going the Falcon Foundation route and it was the best decision for her. She said she is very happy with her decision. Don’t stress to much the additional cost of attending GMC. You have plenty of time in life to pay off any loan you may have to take out to attend the school. Not sure if GMC has scholarships you could request but look into that if that is the path you choose. For her she has not spent all of her cadet pay. She goes skiing and other weekend activities and still has a pretty good checking account balance. Also 100% of her Falcon Foundation group got appointments. I see that you want to serve your country so really think about what career path within the military branch you will really want to be part of.

I’m a USAFA class 26’ applicant and this is my first time creating a thread on this forum. I am currently in a “good” dilemma because I have received the FFS and I have received an appointment to USNA. My heart was completely set on attending USAFA after attending the Summer Seminar but when I received my “rejection” on March 26th, I thought it would be a no brainer to choose USNA.

However I have read that some applicants who are completely rejected have gained an appointment around May because of unused slots. I would like to know if this is the same for FFS students or if it is even true at all?

I keep reading that the FFS is basically a “golden ticket” to USAFA, but I would also feel like im turning down a huge opportunity at USNA to instead try again to a place that isn’t sure about me. However I am also trying to avoid living ships for long periods of time and would instead love to be an Air Force Officer.
I believe that I would have a fun time at USNA but an even BETTER time at USAFA.

I also feel like if I choose the FFS scholarship then I may be throwing away all of my work. I feel like I got lucky this year as I have a 1210 SAT score, 4.1 gpa, XC Team Captain, 4 years XC, 4 years Track & Field, 2 years Wrestling, NJROTC Officer, NHS, and 2 other community service clubs. I also received a Senator nomination so how much better can I make my profile.

My father and everyone I know thinks I would be an idiot to take this scholarship, pay to attend GMC and wait another year to get in. My heart is saying take the risk but my brain is saying, take the opportunity gifted to you.
This is the exact position I’m in. I received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in March and was notified of my falcon foundation scholarship a few weeks later. In a similar mindset as you, albeit maybe a little less partial to
USAFA, I accepted my appointment for USNA. I told all of my family and friends, bought the merch, took all the pictures, felt satisfied and excited about my decision. Then out of nowhere I was notified of an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy (today)! Now, although I am beyond honored and excited, I feel so conflicted! It’s going to be a long night of pro’s and con’s lists. Both are incredible opportunities. I have no idea how to proceed. Prayers and advice greatly appreciated :)

Wow that is amazing, did you decline your falcon foundation scholarship before April 15th or did you let it run through the deadline?

First world problems. Buy a brand new Ferrari Pista or a slightly used Pagani Zonda. I will go with the Pagani. Navy and Air Force are very different. I do not understand why some people apply to all the academies and then go, which one do I chose? I will never get it. But that is me, just me.
This is a pretty salty and snippy thought process.
Many who desire to serve apply to more than one avenue to commission as an officer in our Nation’s military. It is incredibly competitive.
And the nomination slates aren’t published in advance. Nobody gets a “hey, dude, USAFA has no competition this year, pick that one ‘cuz West Point is slammed with perfect ACT’s this year”.
If an applicant is intent on serving, they apply to all sources available to them. Kudos to them. The application process is a royal PITA and if they complete it, props.
Shows dedication, attention to detail and follow through.
Then, if lucky and deserving enough they have decisions to make. Real world problems. Which service should I give my next decade to? Which service should I be willing to sacrifice for?
I don’t consider those choices first world problems.
I’m not trying to rag on you. Honestly but the tone of your message struck a chord in me.
When less than 1% of our citizenry serves, I think we should be grateful. And not question their motives.
