My app was dropped today, oddly. My school profile wasn't showing as complete, but I confirmed the day of the due date with my counselor that she did in fact complete all of the required material. Also, since I emailed the letter of rec to admissions, they reached out to that specific teacher asking her to submit that, but that also happened after the due date. I emailed admissions asking about this, since it doesn't make sense, but the response was unhelpful. I didn't mention that it seemed like my teacher received communications after the due date, and that doesn't seem to make much sense as they dropped my app anyway. Is there anything else I could possible do besides learn from this? I just mostly feel bad since my nomination is going to be wasted now. Thank you.

You could take away communication skills. Make sure everyone's on the same page next time with plenty of time to spare before the deadline. Other than that, I really don't know. I'm sorry about your experience with this! This probably is one of the worst feelings, but you can always try again next year. Good luck in the future! Communicating too much is better than too little.

@Capt MJ gave you some good advice on 2/1/21 with regards to fixing the CFA portion of your application so now that your app has been closed - I would recommend the same. If you haven't contacted anyone via phone and spoken with them I suggest reaching out to get answers. Look up your Admissions Representative on the USMMA website and reach out to ask questions. "Can you tell me why my app was closed?" and if it was due to the school profile not being submitted then be prepared and have dates available that your counsellor supposedly submitted the information. If they tell you it is too late to submit, then ask what you can improve on for next time and keep moving forward with plan B,C,and D. An email and/or a call to the main office is probably not going to get much of a result. If you can't get through to your Admissions Rep - there should also be contact information for a corresponding secretary that I know my DS communicated with a few times and was very responsive. A call may yield great results or will give you some closure and let you know that you need to pursue another path. Good Luck!

"Contact someone now. That is a critical correction. Don’t just assume magical things will happen. Take charge of the error and go solve it. You’ll immediately feel better.

This is an illuminating lesson in attention to detail. Let us know how it goes.

And may I suggest, do not send an email, muster your best live phone skills and talk to a person. Yes, it can be awkward and embarrassing, but step right up to explain the situation and ask for help in rectifying it. People make mistakes. You own it, explain clearly, ask for help, express appreciation. If you send an email, you do not know who will read it and when. You need an active piece of two-way communication to resolve this in a timely manner."

Thanks for the advice. The email that I already got back was just them telling me the two that weren't submitted. I am going to send another email explaining the problem. I will see if I can call them too, after I get home from school. Everyone but the one teacher had that everything was complete and verified, so maybe they needed the teacher's submission too, in order to complete the school profile? I will let you know how it goes.

I recall that there were a few issues with your application: the CFA fail bc you submitted them as a male (and are a female), and a couple correspondences that your school administrators hadn’t submitted on time. Could you have been ‘dropped’ for any of the incorrect/outstanding items? Probably. I recall you were trying to get things in PAST the deadline of 1/31...from your previous thread posts. That you were applying last minute as you received a nomination. If so, it shouldn’t be a surprise honestly that your application was closed, if you had either the CFA fail (make vs female issue), or all items were not received in time.

Regardless, calling and speaking go to somone live is how you get your questions answered. Period. No other way. Two way conversation so you can seek clarification on things you still don’t understand. And they can clarify. You had outstanding items, at the deadline. If there are to be exceptions to those items, you need to speak with admissions about this. No one here at all can help with this...you had a few issues, and need to settle those via admissions.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I just called, and there might still be a small chance for me. I probably won't still be considered, but a slim chance is better than none. It depends on what my AO's higher up decides, it sounded like. And, I can always apply again next year. My app was dropped due to the two missing documents, and the CFA was already fixed.

Good luck. Even if it doesn’t work out the way you’d like, at least you’ll have the peace that comes with understanding/knowing what happened. Glad you called and thanks for updating the post. I’m sure everyone is rooting for you!

May I ask how you found out that you were dropped? I had everything checked and green as submitted and verified complete but on February second it showed that my CFA was a fail. I checked my portal today out of curiosity and the CFA was marked as a pass. Everything is in and green but I had assumed that I was late and wouldn't be considered.

It says Dropped-Incomplete next to the status. I don't have any further updates from admissions.

So this post inspired me to check my portal as I was in the exact same boat as you with receiving a nom super late and making a last minute attempt. I had "App on file" So I texted my area guy and he called me. He told me that MMA has accepted people as far back as submitting on the 10th of February, so it might be worth a try to explain the situation. Also found out that my application will be reviewed and I submitted like you

Thanks! I just hope that my counselor gets back to me soon. I explained the situation to him on the 10th, but I believe that the missing materials were sent to him before that.

Can you confirm this of the 10th? I got an email back from my counselor today saying that they could not look at my application since it was submitted late. I guess it's game over for this cycle.

The guy I spoke with is like the naval academy equivalent of a BGO except he didn’t attend USMMA (his son does) so it might be possible that he was wrong. During our conversation though he did say that USMMA does acknowledge that their system is slightly dysfunctional and has taken late applications before. But it’s March now so I think that window has passed. Sorry :/

Ah, okay. Yeah, I figured it had passed, but the stuff would have been in before the 10th. But oh well. At least I know not to make this same mistake again.

I guess that what I'm still confused about, then, is that my teacher was contacted after the deadline in order to complete the rec. requirements. I'm not sure why they would have done that since they have a no late policy.
