Can anyone recommend how I might leverage my NROTC scholarship to help me get admitted to a college? (Or whether I should). In my essays, I mentioned that I have an NROTC scholarship and talked about how I feel that I would be an asset to the student body by representing an important point of view - i.e. military service. Don't know if that dog will hunt (even though I do sincerely believe this).
Should I contact the individual NROTC commanders and express my interest? By email? letter? phone? I've only been able to visit one school/NROTC unit (my state school). The others are out-of-state and it will be difficult (not impossible but difficult) to visit the others, given my spring schedule/sports commitments, family finances for travel etc. But if that is what it takes, I will do it.
I did some searching to try to find out if NROTC units have any pull with admissions - seems like it's a mixed bag. BTW I am regular decision for all of my apps. Right now, I have my scholarship placed at a significant reach (i.e. <10% acceptance) non-Ivy.
Also: Should I let the NROTC unit commander know that my first choice is USNA?
