Hello,
I have recently received an LOA for USMA not too long ago, but still, something troubles me. So for context, I only have my statements, nomination, medical qualification, and CFA scores left on my application for me to input. The only part that I am slightly worried about is the CFA. I haven't had a lot of sport experience in my high school career; I've only ever had two years' worth of sports but I wasn't on varsity. I assume that I got the LOA based on my extensive leader roles and abilities beyond physical demonstration, but that is beside the point. I know that an LOA should be very relieving to any applicant, but I can't help but feel worried that if I don't perform well on the CFA (depending on what is defined as "well") USMA will revoke my LOA. Am I wrong in assuming this can happen?

I would like to ease your mind in the fact that I have been extensively training for this test and I am by no means going to "fail" the CFA. I've taken practice tests in the past and I am below average but I have improved exponentially in between tests and will continue to do so in the future. Assuming that one gets a nomination and is medically qualified, is there a scenario in which one can have an LOA revoked solely based on their performance on the CFA? What is the extent to which an LOA will hold regarding CFA scores? Thank you for your time.

Does the LOA give any limitations, is it dependent on you attaining a certain CFA score?

My daughter received an LOA as well. The conditions she had to meet were to have her file completed by a specific date (which included passing the CFA), and then to clear medical and obtain a nomination. Unless you had certain scores detailed in the LOA you needed to achieve, I believe all you need to do is pass, complete your file by the deadline provided...and then of course be cleared medically and secure a nomination.

Your LOA would not be revoked, but if you do not pass your CFA, you would not get the appointment. LOAs are conditional. Admissions is saying that they want you, once all other conditions are met.

The LOA said that I would receive acceptance based on physical qualification but then later goes on to say that once I upload my scores (and some other stuff) I will receive an acceptance. I had a hard time distinguishing between whether I had to qualify physically or I just had to do the test period.

The LOA is conditional upon being 3Q + NOM. The CFA is one of those Q's. You must pass the CFA.

I have never heard of an LOA requiring a minimum score, other than the minimum passing score.

Congrats, OP! DD had the same question. The LOA says: "You must send the Admissions Office your Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) results...by [DEADLINE] or this letter of assurance will be withdrawn." You are asking whether that means that you must submit passing results by the LOA deadline to keep your LOA from being withdrawn.

Only USMA can give you a definitive answer.

My advice is to do your best to pass the CFA by your current deadline. Ask your FFR for advice, and keep your FFR apprised of your efforts. Your FFR and RC are there to help you through this process. With five weeks of training, DD was able to pass. But if she had fallen short, her RC was fully aware of her efforts and progress so that USMA could make an informed decision.

Rest assured, you must pass the CFA. To be clear, neither WP nor any other SA will offer an appointment to a candidate who is not physically qualified. Your LOA is not an invitation to fail. A LOA is a conditional offer. Don’t waste it.

Congrats on your LOA. If you feel ok to share some of your stats ( SAT/ACT, EC, state) etc.
Someone else’s statistics don’t matter. You either get an LOA or you don’t. And, someone else’s statistics have nothing to do with whether you will receive an LOA or an offer of appointment. Focus on improving your own application and don’t worry about somebody else’s LOA.

My FFR told me on 10-25-2020 there have been only 19 LOA's given across the United States. 6 have already been given offers, all were service connected noms.

An LOA does not short circuit the competitive process; The highest WCS score (or qualified Principal Nominee) wins the slate irrespective of LOA's.

It would be unusual not to have several athletic and diversity candidate LOA's issued by now, which is where most USMA LOA's go. But these are unusual times.

Which is not to say the person with the LOA will be denied an appointment. He could be charged elsewhere.

Regarding revocation. I don’t remember where I heard the quip, but it had a tinge of truth to it: With the exception of your birthday, just about everything is revocable in the military.

Good luck in your continuing efforts.
