Can NROTC student opt to take one class pass/fail rather than letter grade?

Im just curious about this, since when I was in college struggled with one class and could do this, but not sure if someone on scholarship can do this to help save GPA when in a tough class.

All NROTC-specified and Naval Science courses will be taken for a letter grade.

As I read this all required NROTC courses including Calculus, Physics, Naval Science, other math courses, required English courses, and anything else I may have missed (there ARE others) must be taken for a letter grade. Others, such as underwater basket weaving can be taken pass/fail. I expect if there is grade challenges it might very well be in one of the tougher required courses, especially calculus and physics. Most units offer tutoring for those particular topics, so if one senses they are in trouble they should seek out that resource.

Kinnem is spot on as usual. The question is what is a specified class.
Math, Physics, Naval Science, are for sure.
The history, English, foreign language were not in my day. The history and English may be now.

You can still use the university proficiency exams to meet the requirement. I also believe you can still take those courses pass fail.

Most units will allow you to follow your university's pass/fail policy for degrees, except where the NROTC policy is more restrictive.

NROTC required classes are:

• In addition to normal course load, midshipmen must follow these general academic guidelines:
  • Calculus (one year by end of sophomore year) (not required for Nurse- or Marine Corps- option students)
  • Physics (one year of calculus-based physics by end of junior year) (not required for Nurse- or Marine Corps- option students)
  • English grammar and composition (one year)
  • National Security Policy/American Military Affairs (not required for Nurse-option)
  • One semester of world culture and regional studies is required.
• Naval Science course each semester

LOL. I looked over DS's shoulder for a year until he got soooo POed that I decided I must stop. You'll get used to it.
