Can separated officers administer the officer oath?

Are former active duty, honorably separated military officers eligible to administer the oath of office to newly commissioned officers? I would like for my Dad, who served 15 years as an Army and Coast Guard officer, to administer the oath to me if possible, when I commission in a couple weeks.

No, it must be a commissioned officer (active or retired) who administers the oath.

Technically, any officer of any component that is active duty, reserve or retired can give the oath of office. If they resigned their commission, then technically they are not an officer any more, and can't give the oath. In reality, nobody really asks and may allow a former officer (someone who resigned) to give the oath of office.

Each ROTC BN is different, if there are a lot of cadets to be commissioned they may not let someone else give the oath, so the PMS can give them all the oath at once to cut down on the length of the ceremony.
