I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was 6, which has allowed me to take the SAT in time and a 1/2. (1.5x time) and have a 504 plan in my HS. I have taken medication for my condition, and I wanted to know if I can still apply to USNA, USAFA, and USMA with this in mind. I got decently far in my application before realizing that USNA doesn't accept scores with accommodations. I've already submitted the scores I've gotten to USNA, USAFA, and USMA. I'm a senior right now, and it's too late to schedule another untimed SAT. Do I have any options left to apply to the service academies?

With your history, it may be a narrow and challenging path to military service. Recommend searching the many threads on accommodations, diagnoses for conditiions such as ADHD, etc.

I do not believe any of the SAs will consider standardized test scores with accommodations or taken while using certain medication.

There are no accommodations given at SAs.

Your school guidance counselor will have submitted information relating to use of accommodations, 504 plan, etc.

Have you started the DoDMERB process? You will be providing information on medical history, diagnoses and dates, medication history, etc. If you are DQed, you must be able to show you can perform strongly without accommodations and/or medication, and have updated evaluations from healthcare providers supporting your ability to perform well without accommodations or medication. A successful waiver process will rely on this.

This is the military medical accession standard used to determine if candidates meet/do not meet the standard. See page 50.

To educate yourself on the DoDMERB pricess, go to the website on a laptop, not a phone, and read through the landing page and left-side menu items.

The same military medical accession standard applies to college ROTC.

Be sure to develop alternative plans. People can and do successfully navigate this, but it is challenging. There are many reapplicants each year to the SAs, because for some, time and strong performance in college taking SA first-year-like courses without accommodations or medication is helpful to eventually obtaining a waiver if they are DQed for this reason

Good luck to you!

My DS took SATs with and without accommodations. Although we believed he needed the accommodations, he received the same SAT score without the time and a half extra. So definitely try it without; you never know. The digital SAT was easier for my son vs the paper SAT. Only USNA specifically asked about the use of accommodations on the SAT. USNA admissions emailed and stated they were removing his SAT scores from the portal that used the accommodations. All the service academies asked if he had an IEP, 504 plan, or academic accommodation, which he did not. The guidance counselor is also asked whether academic accommodations were used at school.

It states in the USAFA Instructions to Candidates states that they do not accept nonstandard (untimed or extended time) test scores. I could not find any language about that for West Point except that the test must be timed. I’ve been told that accommodations are listed on the score report, but have never seen an official one to know.

As an educator, I’m not sure why accommodations on the SAT would not be considered academic accommodations.

OP, while you do have quite a few hurdles when it comes to getting an appointment. You do have time to take another SAT/ACT without accommodations before applications are due. There is an ACT on Oct 26 and an SAT in Nov. Both would be early enough for SA applications.
