Is it appropriate to ask for an overnight visit to West Point if you're offered USMAPS?

How about prep school, has anyone ever done an overnight visit there?

Overnight visits to USMA are available to candidate who have received and appointment or LOA.
Your son is certainly welcome to schedule a candidate day visit at West Point. It would be prudent and appropriate.
You would have to contact USMAPS about a visit. I don't know what their policies are.

I believe CC's at USMAPS are given opportunities to visit West Point during the year.

Thank you JAM.

My son has an Appointment to USMAPS and hit me with a zinger the other day, he said: "Dad, shouldn't I visit West Point before I turn down any other of my schools and scholarships?" I thought it was a done deal with him but he wants to research everything. He's waiting for admissions to get back with him on his acceptance, and will request at least a day visit. I realize it's an Appointment to USMAPS and not directly to the USMA but, he does have to decline two other scholarships to accept USMAPS and that theoretically is the path to an Appointment to the USMA the next year. He wants to visit and see how life really is there if he's making the commitment to that school, he really loved The Citadel. I'm sure he'll take the Appointment either way, but I'm happy to hear that he's really weighing everything out, as he should.

My daughter has an appt to USMMA Prep, and she is doing an overnight at USMMA later this month. She might not be attending USMMA this year, but before she go there next year she wants to see it before she decides.. makes sense to me that your son want's to see it first :)

He definitely should visit. He can call his Regional Commander. Even a day visit is very beneficial. He will follow a plebe, go to class, eat lunch etc.
You should go to if you can. They will have a briefing for parents with a Regional commander and a briefing with a cadet. Afterward, one or two cadets will give you a guided tour.

Things are starting to change on his West Point web portal (travel arrangements) and he received a letter from admissions today after they received his acceptance letter.

He's going to talk to his West Point Liaison officer about a visit, and we'll all (mom, dad and cadet) make the trip up to West Point. My wife and I grew up in that area, so it'll be very easy trip for us.

I'm going to try to wait till the snow disapears....

My son finally called his admissions team member about this question and they allowed him (at our expense obviously) an overnight West Point visit with his USMAPS appointment.

A surprise came the next day...they (the USMA) sponsored a trip to USMAPS for him four days after we get home from West Point for 3 days there. Thank goodness he's on Spring Break for one of the trips.

Are you serious? They (USMA) are sponsoring a trip to USMAPS for your son at their expense? Wow, how nice an opportunity for your son to get to see both schools! How did they inform you of this trip?

His Liaison officer (the same officer he's in contact with weekly now, great man) called him and offered the USMAPS trip, the day after my son asked for, and was OK'd for, an overnight trip to the USMA. He told him that while they wouldn't pay for the West Point trip, they would pay for his USMAPS visit. We all thought it was fantastic!
