Can you trade nominations?

Hello. Is it possible to trade a nomination with someone? I really want to go to the Naval Academy but was wondering if I am nominated to another service academy, are my chances of acceptance to the Naval academy gone? (Since I would have a nomination to another service academy and not USNA) Thank you.
 
You must have a nomination to be appointed to USNA (or any of the SAs minus USCGA) to attend. That is a requirement. You cannot swap them. Some MOCs have changed slates if a candidate calls and says they got an LOA after their interview or something along those lines.

Ok. So basically, if I get a nomination to Usafa and not Usna, I only have a possibility of being accepted into usafa.

Also, lets say I get accepted into usafa. When I have finished serving 5 years in the Air Force, can I apply for a lateral transfer or interservice transfer to the Navy? I also know there is something called interservice Academy. If you know how this works, please let me know. Thank you!
 
Use the search function for cross commissioning and lots of old threads will pull up. If you want to be in the Navy my best advice is to by pass USAFA (if that becomes an option) go to college and reapply to USNA. Going to the USN after being in the USAF isn't a total No, but chances are slim.

How come the chances are slimmer?
 
Because the Navy gets its officers from USNA and NROTC.

Tell the folks on the MOC interview committee that you want only USNA. They won't likely give you a nomination for any other academy unless you tell them you are satisfied with one of the others.

While others will disagree, I would suggest that you establish an open mind with respect to each academy. If you goal is to serve and lead men and women, you can do that in any of the services, and all of the academies are outstanding (West Point being the most outstanding. Lol). Applying to each increases your chances, and may give you options. My kid did this and was delighted to receive an appointment to USAFA, and then got one from USMA, which he accepted before getting USNA. It's a great problem to have to decide between multiple academies (and ROTC).

My son, who is a plebe at WP, has talked with squids and zoomies who are in his company, as well as cadets from Coast Guard Academy, and has said it would be cool to attend any of those schools; even though he loves where he is.

Thank you for sharing your son's experience. My main goal is to receive an appointment to USNA to pursue my dream career. I have applied to all of the academies also. I just hope that I can somehow fulfill my dream.
