I'm a senior and High School, whom sent in my pre-candidate questionnaire on July 16th. I received an email yesterday morning, which I assumed was about me becoming a candidate (although it only said "your status was changed" "click here to see"). However, I'm wondering if what "MidwestDad" said in another thread was true:

"Don't forget the clock starts ticking from the day he opened his file; completion deadline will be sooner for him. Not a bad thing just can't procrastinate."

Is it true that you get 4 months to the day that you OPEN your file or 4 months to the day that you are GRANTED candidate status to complete your application? (Or even 4 months at all) I have a month-long winter break (Dec. 20th-Jan. 18th) and I would rather wait until then if I can 'extend' the time that I have to work on an application, so I'm not knee deep in other college work and sports while I'm doing my applications.

Additionally, does this "timer" start when you login to your account, or when you press "access application to class of 2022.' Or would it be totally to my advantage to just start now, because timing is potentially irrelevant or doesn't matter.

Do not wait until Dec to start working on your application. Start working on it as soon as it opens up for you. There are some items that require input from teachers and counselors that will be hard to obtain if you wait to begin.

Not sure about the 4 month time frame, but I can tell you My son filled out Pre-candidate questionnaire in early July and was given a 31 Dec deadline to complete his application.

the clock starts when they change your status to candidate, whether or not you open the email or portal doesn;t matter, just get it done

And it't not necessarily a full 4 months. Our DS got changed to candidate status on July 19th, and his deadline is November 2. That's 3-1/2 months.

Your deadline will be posted on your portal. This is your deadline and you must comply with it.
