Hi Everybody,

I am drafting my candidate essays for all USMA, USNA, USAFA. What should be the style of these essays.. direct to the point & precise or story telling & pin drop moment?
I do understand that in both the styles, I do have to answer the questions being asked and stick to the number of characters.

Any advice is appreciated.

Tell your story in the way that makes the most sense and comes the most naturally to you. Substance means much more than style. Make it your authentic voice, as if you were telling the story orally. Above all, address the prompts directly. And have someone who knows you well — family, friends, teachers — review it to ensure the BS meter doesn’t go off.

I don't know what's the official name of the technique my daughter used.

Remember, there are word/character limits so that can dictate the style. For example, questions on apps for MoC noms in our state were very limited in length. For those, I recall she was direct to the point and precise.

For the SAs, I recall DD using an attention grabber to start out a personal situation which flowed into her answer for the essay prompt. So maybe pin drop moment to start her story telling?
