Candidate for 2013 Class

Clarification on USNA Recruited Athletes

If you are a recruited athlete for football, you will not have any contact with your BGO. The athletic department serves that role. If USNA decides they are no longer interested in you as a recruited athlete, you will be "released" to your BGO. This is to ensure no NCAA violations occur.

The Blue & Gold Officer plays a specific role in the recruited athlete's USNA admissions process. The BGO counsels and assists recruited athletes in:
  • Learning about the academic life at USNA.
  • Completing their Required Application Documents.
  • Obtaining a nomination.
The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) has its specific role and specifically directs BGOs to not:
  • Contact or speak with the recruited directly regarding USNA athletics - rather refer them to the appropriate coach.
  • Recruit the athlete for a USNA athletic team.
  • Visit the prospect’s school to pick up film, evaluate a prospective student-athlete’s athletic ability or pick up transcripts.
  • Offer what NCAA calls “extra benefits."
  • Conduct a BGO interview unless specifically told to do so by the Candidate Guidance Office.
